While Chris was born in Bogota, he was raised in Lexington, KY, playing soccer his whole life. After a soccer injury, he decided to pick up shooting pool as a lower impact hobby. Amy, born and raised in Vegas, moved to Lexington and joined a pool league to meet people. Throughout Fall of 2017, their paths crossed a couple times a week during pool league. From Sunday night league at Cue Club to practicing with the boys at Yesterday's on Thursdays, they were constantly around each other, but never hung out one on one. Chris's first impressions of Amy: Let's just say the first time I met Amy, her Vegas was showing and she definitely hit on me first, which I liked. But first she drew me in with how well she shot pool and before I think she knew it, she had my attention. She had a steadiness about her when she played. An aura that displayed her inner poise, focus, drive, maturity and confidence. Constantly she kept popping up in my weekly leagues or practice nights; becoming friends with my very new pool family. Quickly, I came to love Amy and everything about her except for Scarlet. Amy's first impressions of Chris: He was always at the pool hall, playing in league, grabbing a drink, playing for money, or just practicing - he's an amazing shot and willing to help anyone learn any tricks he discovers. Coming from his job at the bank, he looked like a kid playing dress up in clothes that were too big, which I always made fun of him for. And he made me laugh from the first time we hung out. He was funny without making fun of others, constantly pulling out obscure movie quotes I didn't get, which resulted in a lot of awkward moments. I loved how people are drawn to him. He's so empathetic and kind, everyone just feels so comfortable around him - they come for advice, to grab a drink, or get massages. He loves giving massages and freely offers his services to anyone - ask him at the wedding and I'm sure he'll oblige!
As crazy as it sounds, their first date was on New Year's Eve. Both of them had plans that sort of fell through, so Amy invited Chris to join her at a table at Hugo's with a few of her friends - throughout the night they talked, danced, drank, and laughed. They even saw a guy get thrown onto their table, sending their bottle of Jack and all their drinks flying. When the clock struck midnight, they rang in 2018 with their first kiss, and the rest is history!
We planned a weekend at the cabin at Lake Cumberland, a yearly tradition. This year, Chris recommended we plan in advance and invite friends from all over - Melanie came in from Vegas, Robert & Etu from Austin, and all our local friends made the journey out. The sun was shining, the weather was perfect, and everyone was having a great time! From Amy's point of view: We had talked about getting a custom ring made, and the jewelry store said it would take 90 days once initial designs were submitted. Chris had said he wanted my input on the design, just to make sure I got something I loved. When February, March, April, and then May passed, I figured there was no way he was proposing on this trip (my original hunch) because there wasn't enough time to get the ring. So, Friday started out on the lake with our regular pontoon boat. After lunch, Chris recommended going to the waterfall at the Steel Mill for a group photo. Of course, I was in - photos are my absolute favorite. I had mentioned earlier in the day that last time we were on the lake we forgot to get a group photo, so I didn't think anything was going on. Little did I know, he had planned everything out. After the first group photo, Chris asked one of the guys to take it again, but instead of taking a second photo, he started recording. Chris dropped to one knee, and everyone lost their minds. I didn't even hear him ask the question, I just saw the ring, snatched it out of the box, and put it on my own finger. A few minutes later, someone asked if I said yes and I couldn't remember, so I shouted it out again. I made it about 30 seconds before I leaned over and asked him where the "real" ring was. From Chris's point of view: For once, Amy got the story right!! "You just gotta tell the story right"- Name that movie!
