Swasey’s beach is a massive beach on the shores of the Green River, it is where we will have the wedding and reception. We are planning to raft the river from the Nefertiti put in to Swasey’s beach at least once (Friday the day before the wedding) but hopefully once more during the week leading up to the wedding. If you want to raft it with us let us know! We need a head count, folks might need to rent inflatable kayaks from town, we will see. Swasey’s is also just a nice spot to enjoy the beach. It will be low water, but still watch your children and animals. I think it should be warm enough to get in the river. Logan and I went last year around this time and it was perfect.
Bottleneck peak is smack dab in the main and most popular part of the San Rafael Swell. Bottleneck is one of three prominent desert towers/peaks (Window blind peak and Assembly Hall as well), all of which can be seen from this point. The San Rafael River runs through here. Mal followed wild donkeys in the Swell and would often visit the river in the evenings to watch for beavers and bats. From here, you can explore up and down Buckhorn wash and Mexican mountain road, though, for Mexican mountain you might need a high clearance/AWD vehicle. Also, up Buckhorn Wash road there is a really cool pictograph panel and a dinosaur footprint in the sandstone! We don't have the gps location for the footprint, but ask us for it and we shall try our best to produce it. This is a great place for chill mountain biking, climbing at the Dylan wall and other walls, and another great place for sunset + vino.
Goblin Valley is awesommmme! You will feel like you are on MARS I AM SERIOUS. This is a fun place to walk/hike around. You can hike amongst the alienesque hoodoos. I have heard this is a great spot to see the stars at night.
Little Wild Horse canyon is picturesque, beautiful, flowy, sandy slot canyon world. Bring the kiddos here to blow their freaking minds. You can do an out-and-back hike for however long you want, there is also a 10 mile loop that is very beautiful.
The Wedge overlook is above the San Rafael Swell and overlooks the "Little Grand Canyon". Tina Lambert has claimed that the Little Grand Canyon is "more impressive than the actual Grand Canyon". Personally, we disagree. Nonetheless, it is beautiful. Head up to the Wedge for mountain biking, hiking, and a good sunset view with some vino and frens.
Do I need to say anything? Everyone knows about Arches. If you haven't seen Delicate Arch, it is a pretty chill hike and a beautiful sight! There are also loads of other arches to visit in the park. Devil's Garden is a fun area with a handful of different hikes.
We luv Canyonlands. I think it might be one of the most underrated National Parks....idk. Anyway, it is awesome! Grand view point is incredible, as well as the White Rim overlook, and the view from Mesa Arch! All of those are different hiking options :)
Iconic, beautiful view of the Colorado River.
Short, easy hike through Mill Creek Canyon goes to a waterfall and several natural pools to swim in!
Castle Valley is beautiful with its iconic desert towers right above the Colorado River. Head there for a hike and there are some vineyards if you feel like wine tasting.
The La Sal mountains are part of what makes Moab so stunning: 12,000 ft peaks immediately behind the beautiful red rock desert. In the summer, they offer a welcome reprieve from the scorching desert, with many different mountain trails to choose from, winding up through aspens and pines. Maybe the leaves will start changing by October!! The view of the desert, even from the La Sal mountain road, is pretty awesome.
