Sites To See

Sites to see: Just walking around Pelourinho, the historic center of Salvador, is a feast for the eyes and the senses. On Friday, there will be a guided walking tour through the historical sites in Salvador. The guide is bilingual and will be focusing on the Black experience and history. Nossa Senhora Rosario dos Pretos: Every Tuesday evening, there is a mass that is a mixture of Afro-Brazilian and Catholic tradition. There’s a line and it’s well worth it to wait Nossa Senhora dos Bonfims: This is the church where everyone leaves their “fitas”- their prayers on bracelets/ribbons. While you are in Bahia, you have to eat acaraje- chickpea flour fried in dende oil, topped with okra paste, chopped tomatoes and onions and some shrimp. And also tapioca, a gluten-free street crepe with sweet or savory fillings. Watch out for the caipirinhas- they are stronger than you think.
