Villa de Leyva is a charming colonial village located in the department of Boyacá, known for its stunning views of the surrounding mountains. With its bohemian atmosphere, the town offers a delightful mix of restaurants, bakeries, and cafés. The surrounding area is rich in natural and cultural attractions. You can explore beautiful waterfalls like "La Periquera" and "El Hayal", or hike to the sacred Iguaque Lake ("Laguna de Iguaque")—a moderately challenging trek with breathtaking scenery and a steep section known as "La Pared" (The Wall). You can also visit Lake Tota ("Lago de Tota"), enjoy wine tastings at local wineries (such as "Viñedo Ain Karim" or "Viñedo Umaña Dajud"), and discover nearby artisanal towns like Ráquira and Monguí—the latter being the gateway to the Páramo de Ocetá, a beautiful high-altitude hike.
Stay in the beautiful surroundings of Guatavita and take time to explore this scenic area. In the area you can enjoy water sports on the Tominé Reservoir (Embalse de Tominé), stroll through the charming village of Guatavita, and choose from a variety of hiking trails, including visiting the Chingaza National Park, for which it is important to book your entrance in advance. From here, you also can easily access other beautiful destinations: the Rocas de Suesca (a popular spot for hiking and rock climbing), the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá, the Nemocón Salt Mines, and the Tatacoita or Checua Desert (Desierto de la Tatacoita o de Checua).
Although Bogotá isn’t always at the top of tourist itineraries, the city offers a rich mix of cultural, natural, and culinary experiences. One of its highlights is Monserrate Mountain and its sanctuary, which can be reached by foot, cable car, or funicular. From the top, you’ll enjoy sweeping panoramic views of the city. Bogotá is also a great starting point for day trips to nearby natural wonders, from different hikes to waterfalls such as Las Delicias and La Chorrera — Colombia’s tallest waterfall, cascading down in seven stunning steps. Within the city, you’ll find a vibrant museum scene, including the National Museum, the Gold Museum, the Botero Museum, and our personal favourite: MAMBO (the Museum of Modern Art). Beyond culture, Bogotá boasts an exciting and diverse culinary scene, with countless restaurants, cafés, bakeries, and bars to explore.
