Charlottesville is the birthplace of American Wine. There are more than 35 wineries within a 30-mile radius of Charlottesville as part of the Monticello Wine Trail. There are many options but our favorite is Barboursville Vineyards - they have award-winning wines and a tasting that offers 17 vintage wines. What's not to love? Remember to try a Viognier - the grape of Virginia. Cville is also a haven for tasty craft beers. In the city are Three Notch'd, Hardywood, and South Street. If you're looking for some scenery with your brew, check out Blue Mountain Brewery, Pro Re Nata Farm, and Starr Hill. Try award-winning Bold Rock Hard Cider at Nellysford Cidery.
Monticello
For you historians and also Hamilton musical lovers, Monticello is a must see. The primary home of Thomas Jefferson, third President of the United States and author of the Declaration of Independence, Monticello is rich with history and unique architecture and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Plus, this is the first place Mary and Johnny traveled together way back in 2005 - long before they even knew they liked each other.
Montpelier
Another historic site for you (what do you expect, the bride was a History major). Montpelier is the home to President James Madison, the Father of the Constitution, the architect of the Bill of Rights, and the namesake of the best college ever (unbiased opinion).
Skyline Drive
Take the Sky Road. Want to enjoy nature from the comfort of your car? Skyline Drive is the activity for you. The 105-mile road runs the entire length of Shenandoah National Park in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. With many places to pull off and take photos of breathtaking views, it's a great way to see the early stages of autumn leaves.
Charlottesville Historic Downtown Mall
In the heart of Charlottesville, the downtown mall is one of the longest outdoor pedestrian malls in the country. Considered one of the finest urban parks in the country, the downtown mall is lined with shops and restaurants, and art galleries.
Carter Mountain Orchard
Pick your own peaches and apples, enjoy some Bold Rock hard cider, and take in the beautiful Cville views from Carter Mountain Orchard. Don't skip the apple cider donuts! If you go, please bring back a dozen donuts for the bride and groom. We promise we'll share...
