Things To Do

In between tacos, tequila, and tying the knot... there's a lot to explore. Tulum is more than just gorgeous beaches and jungle vibes—it’s packed with amazing food, hidden gems, and once-in-a-lifetime adventures. While we’ll have plenty of time together throughout the weekend, there’s also space for you to relax, explore, or squeeze in a little side quest if you’re feeling adventurous. Here are some things to do while you’re in town:

Tulum Beach

Casa Malca

, +52 984 980 0679

Formerly owned by Pablo Escobar (yes, that Pablo Escobar), Casa Malca is now one of the most iconic boutique hotels in Tulum—equal parts art gallery, jungle escape, and beachfront oasis. The design is surreal, moody, and totally Instagrammable. If you’re planning to spend a day there, we recommend the Philosophy Beach Club—their main beachfront spot for lounging, swimming, and sipping cocktails with your toes in the sand. Just be sure to arrive early or call ahead, as reservations are recommended and there’s typically a minimum spend for day guests. Whether you're going for a cocktail, a dip, or just the aesthetic, Casa Malca is a vibe.

Hotel Panamera

KM 8.5 Carretera Tulum-Boca Paila, Tulum, Q.R. 77760, Mexico
, +52 998 109 2540

Equal parts laid-back and luxe, Hotel Panamera is a dreamy beachfront boutique that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a Slim Aarons photo shoot. Come for the effortlessly cool crowd, stay for the mezcal margaritas, candy-striped umbrellas, and the perfect golden hour vibes. The food? Absolutely delicious—think fresh ceviche, wood-fired seafood, and breakfast spreads so good you’ll consider moving in. Whether you're lounging poolside, dancing barefoot in the sand, or vibing to the breeze, this place is pure Tulum magic.

If you're craving a break from the beach clubs and want to tap into your spiritual era, Holistika is the jungle sanctuary for you. This wellness haven offers everything from sound baths and yoga classes to mushroom lattes and plant-based delights. Wander through the dreamy art walk, sweat it out in a temazcal, or just lounge at the pool in blissful silence. It's weird, it's wonderful, it's peak Tulum.

Think wood-fired seafood, mezcal cocktails, and a jungle ambiance that feels straight out of a movie. It's upscale without being pretentious — perfect for a special dinner or just treating yourself.

Casa Banana

, +52 984 191 0792

A longtime Tulum fave, Casa Banana serves up wood-fired Argentine cuisine with rustic jungle vibes. It’s all about grilled meats, fresh seafood, and hearty vegetables charred to perfection over an open flame. The cocktails are strong, the ambiance is cozy but lively, and the outdoor seating under the palms gives it that effortlessly cool Tulum charm. Perfect for a casual yet delicious dinner just off the main beach road.

Gran Cenote

Q.R. 77796, Mexico

Nestled just a few miles northwest of Tulum, Gran Cenote is a magical semi‑open cenote where jungle meets crystal-clear water and cave meets sunlight. The cenote system features interconnected sinkholes bridged by wooden walkways, making it one of the best places around for snorkeling and exploring underwater grottoes. It’s common to spot freshwater turtles gliding through the depths, small fish darting in the shallows, and even bats fluttering in the cave entrances. Open daily from about 8 AM to 4:45 PM, Gran Cenote gets busy—so try to arrive early to beat the crowd. Admission is around 500 MXN (≈ US $25), cash only. Facilities include showers (mandatory before entering to protect the water quality), lockers, restrooms, and shaded lawns with hammocks—a perfect place to rest between dips. Whether you're snorkeling the stalactite caves or floating in sun-dappled pools, Gran Cenote is a serene yet adventurous escape—the kind of spot you’ll remember long after leaving Tulum.

Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve

Sian Ka'an, Q.R. 77187, Mexico

Just a 30-minute drive south of Tulum, the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is a vast UNESCO World Heritage site that translates to “Gate of Heaven” in Mayan and holds some of the Riviera Maya’s most breathtaking ecosystems—mangroves, wetlands, tropical forests, coral reefs, and serene coastlines. Here, you’ll find a boundless landscape spanning nearly 1.3 million acres, teeming with biodiversity—from dolphins, sea turtles, and crocodiles to flamingos, spider monkeys, and toucans. It’s one of Mexico’s most ecologically important regions and home to the largest protected marine and terrestrial reserve in the Caribbean. Expect unforgettable views, soft breezes over marshlands, and a rare chance to disconnect in one of the most pristine corners of the Yucatán—totally worth a full-day outing or an early-morning excursion.

El Castillo Mayan Ruins

Zona Hotelera Tulum, Tulum, Q.R. 77765, Mexico

This iconic structure, known as El Castillo ("The Castle"), anchors the Tulum archaeological site—perched dramatically atop a 12 m (≈40 ft) limestone bluff overlooking the turquoise Caribbean Sea. Though entry to climb the structure is no longer allowed, El Castillo remains awe-inspiring enough to stand beneath, feel the ocean breeze, and take in the sweeping views of the coastline. It’s the tallest and most recognizable feature of the ruins—and a cultural highlight you won’t want to miss if you’re planning to explore Mayan history on your trip to Tulum. Whether you’re visiting solo or joining a guided tour, we highly recommend arriving early (site opens at 8 AM, last entry around 3:30 PM) to wander in relative peace before the crowd builds in midmorning.
