How We Met

Some people arrive in your life like fireworks. Our story was more like a compass point, fixed long before either of us knew how to read the map. We met in Tahoe in 2007, in a hot tub after skiing. Back then, Trevor was the airplane nerd who would go on to earn his A&P license, build F-18s for the Navy in San Diego, become a pilot, and start his own aircraft fabrication business. Ariel was the adventurous girl who, after graduating from UPenn, went on to live abroad, travel to 33 countries, launch a nonprofit focused on remediating blight, and build her own commercial real estate business. Years later, fate stepped back in when Siri accidentally played matchmaker, turning a simple misdial into the moment that unexpectedly brought them back to each other after all that time. This time, the timing was finally right. Their relationship was built on a shared love of adventure, aviation, the outdoors, adrenaline, and dogs. Trevor’s steadiness balances Ariel’s passion, while Ariel constantly reminds Trevor that he doesn’t need to fix everything, even though he is very good at it. Aviation naturally became part of their story. Flying had always fascinated Ariel, who kept “start private pilot lessons” on her New Year’s resolutions for years before Trevor finally turned the idea into reality by arranging her first lesson. For months, he would sit on the ground listening to the CTAF and track her little airplane across ForeFlight in real time, beaming with pride every time she landed. He proposed in the most fitting way possible: while Ariel was flying, they passed over a giant sign on the ground held by friends below that read, “Ariel Will You Marry Me?” Through tears of joy, her response was immediate: “Yes! …Your controls.” Now, their life together feels almost too wild to be true. Snowmobiling through blizzards, flying at sunrise, Trevor building airplanes, Ariel building commercial retail, and together building a home and family they are deeply proud of. After all the years, miles, and near misses, we somehow ended up exactly where we were always meant to be.
