How We Met

"On the internet"

In April 2017, Scott and Colleen connected on a dating app called The League. Colleen's favorite part of Scott's profile was a photo of him with what was clearly a hockey team of young kids he coached. After chatting on the app a little bit, Scott arranged a date at a local bar & restaurant located halfway between their respective neighborhoods called Compass (how symbolic!) After their first date, Scott and Colleen barely went a week - let alone a few days - go by without seeing one another. They went on countless walks along the lake, split many pitchers of margaritas on the Las Fuentas patio, slowly began introducing one another to friends, then family, and the rest is history.

The Proposal

(And Scott claims he's not a planner)

On a Monday in July, Scott and Colleen were on one of their lakefront walks when Scott pointed out all of the people picnicking and suggested they try it sometime. Colleen agreed, although it was unusual for Scott to suggest a picnic. Later that week, Scott's "work event" was cancelled, but he told Colleen he would still take her out to dinner since he had asked her to reserve that evening for his "work event". He then suggested they try the picnic idea. Colleen excitedly agreed and arranged a blanket (thanks, Tracy!), a cooler of snacks and canned wine, and delicious sandwiches from Pastoral. It was a picturesque evening. They found a somewhat private nook right off of Diversey Harbor. Scott eventually stood up to throw away the sandwich wrappers and when he returned, Colleen turned around to find a violinist ten feet away. At first, she did not realize what was happening, until the violinist placed a speaker down and began playing their song, "Beyond" by Leon Bridges. Colleen started tearing up as Scott proposed. Runners, boaters, and bikers stopped to observe their joyous moment. The violinist played several other meaningful songs and even took a few photos for them! As Scott and Colleen blissfully walked back toward the car, they passed their first date bar, Compass. Scott suggested they go in for a celebratory drink. Colleen said, "Of course, we have to!" and the first person she saw when she walked in was her Dad. She burst into happy tears all over again! Scott had invited several friends and family to celebrate with them and many glasses of champagne were poured that night. It was an unforgettable evening and we cannot wait to create more unforgettable memories with all of you on our Big Day!
