A Tinder Love Story...

(We swiped right.)

It was late on a Friday night in March of 2015. Kerry had returned home from dinner with friends and had just finished binge-watching the final four episodes of Glee; Casey had just gotten off a late shift on set for the Hulu show Casual. Casey popped up his phone and saw a stunning woman on Tinder, dark locks flowing in the wind on a bridge, as a car in the background...drove in the wrong direction. The caption read, "East Coast Transplant, Budding Entrepreneur, Purveyor of Gentle Sarcasm." Curious, he typed a message. "How can sarcasm be gentle?" he inquired. Kerry's phone buzzed. She picked it up and let out a chuckle. "Great question," she responded. "Upon reflection, the phrase gentle sarcasm is itself, gently sarcastic. How unintentionally meta of me." Two hours of messaging and laughing later, and an explanation that Kerry's picture had been taken in Ireland (she hadn't even noticed the car in the background), they decided to say goodnight, continuing the conversation the next day. The rest, as they say, is history. And to this day, Kerry is fairly confident that that's the latest Casey has ever stayed awake.

He Popped the Question!

(Finally.)

The day was September 9th - Rosh Hoshanah eve – and one of Kerry and Casey’s final Sundays in LA before moving to Charlotte. Kerry donned the new pink lace dress that had been scorching a hole in her closet, and the couple drove up to Topanga for Sunday Brunch at the rustic restaurant where they’d celebrated Kerry’s 40th birthday. "This might be the last time we come here. I'm springing for the king crab leg buffet," Kerry announced. They enjoyed a lovely brunch in the crisp Topanga air, away from the chaos of the city below. Kerry made no less than 3 trips to the seafood buffet. As their peaceful brunch drew to a close, the waiter came by to clear the table. With the finesse of a sumo wrestler attempting rhythmic gymnastics, he launched a bowl of Tabasco sauce into the air, emptying its contents onto Kerry’s new dress. "Swell," she thought. "I totally have time for a dry cleaning run while I pack to move cross country." A reimbursement and bottle of seltzer were negotiated, and the couple prepared to leave. "Hey, can we make a stop on the way home?" Casey asked. "Sure," Kerry agreed. "Where are we going, and is it cool that I smell like chicken wings?" Casey smiled. "You’ll see." They headed up the coast of Malibu, toward the beach where they’d enjoyed a picnic on their first anniversary. "Aw, how sweet," Kerry thought. "He’s taking me on a tour of our milestone date spots before we move." How delightfully clueless she was. They reached their destination and walked down the steps of the Malibu cliffs to the beach. Except, there was no longer a beach. Eroded, all that was left was a sea of wet boulders and some perplexed tourists. But marriage and life are full of beautiful imperfections, aren’t they? So on that staircase landing above the no-longer beach, Casey got down on one knee and asked his Tabasco marinated girlfriend if she would marry him. And on that perfectly imperfect day signaling new beginnings, Kerry laughed, cried, and said yes.
