This is a photo from our first date! James *claimed* not to know how to use Snapchat as an excuse to sidle up next to Joe.
Fun Fact: This is not a fake scenic backdrop but in-fact a real place in Utah!
James continues to support Joe's bi-coastal work life, including attending two Not Impossible Awards shows.
Since moving to DC, we've regularly traveled down to Charlottesville to spend time with Joe's family
Caffrey joined the family in 2018. He is named after star Stanford Football running back Christian McCaffrey, who led the Cardinal to victory in that storied 2016 Rose Bowl.
Fun Fact: Joe and James have been to 22 weddings together... and counting
Fun Fact: This was the photo used when Caffrey was featured as the "Pet of the Month" at our apartment building. We were very proud.
No story here. But how could I not include this picture? Actually, that look on Caff (and James') face is the joy of being reunited after a 10-day trip to Spain.
Fun Fact: This is James' happy place (especially with New Yorker in hand)
Fun Fact: Our fifth date was a trip to Hawaii because James had a 9th Circuit sitting. This photo, captioned "Hunama Bay with bae," was the first photo of us ever posted to social media.
Oh, how we laugh!
Pilgrimages to the Bartons' home in Redlands, CA have included Christmas and their annual "Barton Days" celebration over Labor Day weekend.
James once surprised Joe with a mystery Valentine's Day trip (to Baltimore). It snowed (an occurrence that still fascinates and delights James' SoCal sensibilities)

Joe and James married on the "Olmsted Steps," named for Frederick Law Olmsted. Considered the father of landscape architecture, Yale-educated Olmsted designed the Stanford campus and Central Park.
