FAQs

The Wedding Website of Alexandra Motter and Andrew Stevens
If you have any questions not covered here, please reach out to us! We know a lot of you are traveling great distances to celebrate with us and that means some of you might have a lot of questions (that's ok).
Question

Which airport should I fly into?

Answer

It depends on how much time you have during your visit and what your plans are. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) tends to have the most affordable international flights, but Salt Creek Beach is actually equidistant from both LAX and San Diego International Airport (SAN)- about an hour or so. There are several smaller airports in the LA area, but LAX is the main one. You can find some good flight deals that fly into SAN, but keep in mind it's a 2 hour drive between the two airports. It really depends on what you want to do and where you want to go while you're visiting Southern California!

Question

Are kids invited?

Answer

Yes! We can't imagine not having Alex's little cousins there or asking any of our friends traveling great distances to not bring their children with them. Please just be sure to rsvp for them!

Question

What's the dress code?

Answer

Semi-formal, please. We think it's fun to get dressed up and be fancy for one day. So please no Hawaiian shirts or shorts. However, it's the beach, so shoes are optional- we'll be barefoot in the sand!

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

If your invitation says "and Guest," then yes, if not, we would prefer if it was just you.

Question

What's the deal with parking?

Answer

The hotels on our website are not within walking distance of the venue, so we suggest taking an Uber, Lyft, or taxi (we will include the contact information for reputable local cab companies on our website). There is a parking lot at the beach, but you will need quarters or a credit card to pay. We will have golf carts making trips from the parking lot to the ceremony/reception spot.

Question

What time does it start?

Answer

Our ceremony has a hard 4pm start time because we only have the area until 9pm. That said, we are going to be coordinating with our wedding planner, the golf cart company, and all of you to make sure we can start on time! Please check back later, but we do ask guests to arrive and park around 3pm as getting down to the ceremony location might take awhile. But don't worry! Anything you might need (water, sunscreen, bathroom) will be available to you within steps of your seat.

Question

What's the weather going to be like?

Answer

It's not unusual for Southern California to experience temperatures as high as 90°F (32°C) well into the winter. It's safe to expect it to be about 75°F (23°C) the end of September and it will probably get a little cooler than that at night. We definitely recommend bringing a sweater or wrap for after the sun has set.

Question

Do you have time to hang out?

Answer

Of course! Email us! Call us! Text us! Facebook us! WhatsApp us! Don't tweet us because we don't do Twitter. We want to see and spend time with all of you!

Question

I'm British, what do I need to know about Americans?

Answer

Sooo many things. First, at an American wedding, when people tink their glasses with a spoon, this could mean: speech or, more likely, urging the newlyweds to kiss. Second, all Americans will be fascinated by your accent. Sorry. Just humour them. Third, you will need sunscreen. You can ask Andy, he will have some you can borrow. Four, expect to tip 20% in most places. Restaurants, bars, cabs, hairdressers, any service-oriented place. Fifth, Americans are all wonderful people and you will love them (mostly just in California, though).

Question

I'm American, what do I need to know about the British?

Answer

You'll probably have difficulty understanding what they're saying: just smile and nod. Harry Potter is real, but they'll deny it if you ask them because you're a muggle (or, actually, a nomaj). We did tell the Brits to bring some sunscreen, but they probably won't listen, so if you can bring some for them that would be greatly appreciated. They have an incredibly dry sense of humor. Do not be alarmed. They are simply "taking the piss" (translation: joking with you). The Queen sends her apologies, but she won't be able to join us. One of her grandchildren is busy marrying his own American.

Question

What time does it end?

Answer

We have a hard 9pm end time due to the nature of our location (there are a lot of residences overlooking the beach). However, we are planning to have a casual 'after party'- location TBD.
