How We Met

6.23.16

We met by swiping right! That's right: we were a Tinder match. We exchanged text messages for a total of one day before deciding to meet a few days later. Our first date was at the Cantab Lounge in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Alex picked the spot because they both love beer and live music. The Chicken Slacks were performing that night (a huge group of brass instruments and soul singers), which made hearing each other difficult- but we made do! We had our second date three days later at the Painted Burro in Davis Square in Somerville and, as they say, the rest is history.

The Proposal

4.4.17

Andrew had the ring for four months before proposing in his hometown of St. Austell in Cornwall. He wanted to propose in England, but had to wait for his green card to come through before traveling out of the US. He arranged for his brother to nonchalantly suggest they go to the Ship Inn (a local pub on Pentewan Beach) for dinner that night. Turned out that it was Bingo Night, so our meal was accompanied by the dulcet sounds of "30! Dirty Gertie!" and "73! Queen Bee! Under the tree! Lucky 3!" After the meal, we went for a walk along the beach. It was very cold and very dark! (Though Andy maintains it was 'romantic'...) He somehow managed to keep the ring safe and ask his question down on one knee in the sand. Obviously, Alex said yes and then she surprised Andrew with the ring she had gotten for him.

The Move

6.23.17

After Alex's grandfather passed away in February, and Andy broke his wrist, we knew it was time to be closer to family. It took us about two months to clear out from Boston- there was so much to ship, sell, or donate! Exactly one year to the day of our first date, we packed up Andy's little black Jetta and drove across the United States to our new home in San Diego, California. We took as much time as we could (ten days) to cover the three and a half thousand mile route we chose. We stopped in Philadelphia, PA; Charlottesville, VA; Nashville, TN (for 2 nights); New Orleans, LA; Austin, TX; Roswell, NM; and Flagstaff, AZ (for 2 nights). We drove around five hundred miles a day and saw a lot of America, ate a lot of really delicious food, and hiked the south rim of the Grand Canyon.
