Hi, I'm Kim Overholt and I've had passion for baking (and sugar) from a young age. I started Love + Sugar in 2014 and have loved every second of it. I love amazing feeling that comes when someone exclaims after eating my dessert that it is the "best tasting cake (or cookie) ever!" I invite you to try out our desserts for yourself. Whether that be for a special event or a night on the couch.

Love + Sugar is here to help your special occasions go right. We specialize in party cakes, wedding cakes, and custom-decorated sugar cookies. We use our passion for baking to bring joy to your special occasions with a recipe for outstanding customer service and baked goods that taste as good as they look! Love + Sugar creates desserts worth sharing with others. My delivery area is within 45 minutes of my bakery location in Van Alstyne. I primarily serve Grayson, Collin, Denton, and Fannin counties.     Amazing Wedding Cake Experience!

    I cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience! She made both our wedding cake and groom’s cake, and everything turned out absolutely beautiful. From the very beginning, she was incredibly kind, patient, and flexible. I completely changed my mind on the wedding cake design, and she was so accommodating and supportive throughout the entire process. You can truly tell that she loves what she does and takes so much pride in her work. She took the time to sit down with us and carefully go over all of the pricing and options. Instead of trying to upsell us or make a quick dollar, she actually helped us choose options that saved us money while still giving us exactly what we wanted. That level of honesty and care is so hard to find. The cakes themselves were stunning and tasted amazing. We received so many compliments from our guests throughout the night. She even personally delivered the cakes and placed all of our cake toppers herself to make sure everything looked absolutely perfect before the reception started. Her attention to detail, kindness, and dedication made the entire experience stress-free and enjoyable. I would recommend her to absolutely anyone looking for wedding or special occasion cakes. We are so thankful we chose her!

    SO GOOD

    Kim was amazing! She was quick to respond even when she was recovering from a surgery and we had told her no rush! We did a three tier as well as a sheet cake to ensure we had enough for our guest. Let me tell you... there was barely anything left after! The biggest hit was her lemon cake with jam filling! I informed her what felt like last minute for me but was about 2 weeks out about a heavy cake topper we had also ordered that she adapted and was able to place for us. She took the image of my Pinterest cake and made it EVEN BETTER. I don't have the professional photos back yet but this was one someone had snapped for me super quick

    Bridal shower cake

    I have used Love and Sugar on several occasions and Kim has knocked it out of the park each time. So easy to communicate with and always does wonderful from inspiration photos! The cakes are always delicious and so moist.

    Perfect Birthday Cake

To place an order you may get the process started by filling out the Zola form for weddings or complete the form on my website. Please provide as many details as you can.
All my cakes and cookies are custom-baked, designed & decorated just for you! After filling out the interest form, I will contact you, and we will plan from there! Zola makes it easy! My decorated sugar cookies start at $72/dozen, and wedding cakes average $7-10 per serving based on size, flavor, travel distance, decorations, and details. For example, if you had 100 guests x $7 per serving, the minimum budget would be $700.
Sooner the better! It is never too early to book a date for your order. A two weeks’ notice is required for a "party" cake, however, wedding cakes require more time and planning. I may be able to accommodate your order - just ask - a miracle fee may be added to the order for any last minute requests. Wedding cakes require a $100 deposit to book a date and a signed contract.
Yes, I offer vegan options. My standard cake flavors are not vegan, but can be customized upon request. Several of my fillings are vegan by default (chocolate fudge, strawberry, raspberry). Contact me for more information and we can work something out that fits your taste!
I am not a nut free home. Many of my standard ingredients include labels that they "MAY contain eggs, milk, nuts, peanuts, soy and/or wheat". I use fresh ingredients and do not add any preservatives. Please ask if you have additional questions about my kitchen procedures.
No, not at this time. I currently have no plans to expand my menu to include gluten free, sugar free or keto dessert options.
I am a home baker located in Van Alstyne, TX. Delivery is free within a ten (10) mile radius of Love + Sugar. The minimum delivery fee is $100 within a 50-mile radius of Van Alstyne, TX. Anything above 50 miles will be an additional charge of $2 per mile one way. The Zola map does not accurately reflect my delivery area. I am in Grayson County and deliver within a one or two-county radius. You are responsible for providing an appropriate and secure table and indoor temperature-controlled environment for the cake(s). Please double-check Google Maps for the distance between your wedding venue and Van Alstyne (75495).
No, legally I cannot ship food items. Love + Sugar operates under the Texas Cottage Food Laws and Requirements. “This food is made in a home kitchen and is not inspected by the Department of State Health Services or a local health department.”
Yes! You may pick up a tasting box with servings for two or we can meet at a mutually agreed upon public space. Our cake tastings offer you a choice of 3 different cake flavors and 3 different filling flavors from my menu. There is a small fee for the tasting box for two. Additional servings may be requested for an additional fee.
