Miramar beach is one of the most popular places in Tampico and a great place to enjoy the sand and ocean while sippin' pina coladas. In the evening, make sure to visit its boardwalk, a stretch of road that separates the Gulf of Mexico with the Pánuco River (it's also a great place for a jog). You can admire the entry and exit of ships and shrimp boats and see dolphins from the edge, where the small lighthouse is located.
Spend some time at the historic center, the place where Zach asked Malú to marry him. He actually pointed at the cathedral and asked her "What year do you think it was constructed?" to divert her while he kneeled. As you probably saw in the pictures, the center of the square boasts a huge pink kiosk built in 1945. Stroll through the important landmarks like the old maritime customs building, city hall and the cathedral — but not before ordering the famous "churros" dessert.
Swing your clubs in one of Zach's favorite golf courses (and right by Malú's house!) This 6,960 yards, 18-hole golf club is surrounded by lagoons, iguanas, ducks, storks and all kinds of flora and fauna. Whether you play the 18 or hit some practice rounds, make sure to stop by the 19th hole for drinks.
The "carpenter's lagoon", just 15 minutes from the city center, is one of Tampico’s most important spots for wildlife and biodiversity. You'll find all kinds of animals from migratory birds to crocodiles and woodpeckers. Ride the ferris wheel, stroll by the park to see the crocodiles or hop on a boat tour to explore the roughly 37-acre body of water.
Malú's favorite restaurant, the place where Zach met Malú's parents and the place where both families celebrated the engagement. Curricanes is a can't-miss seafood restaurant with fresh, spectacular dishes. We recommend the tuna tostadas, shrimp tacos, "jaiba a la frank," oysters, coconut shrimp and a mezcal or a michelada. Salúd and provecho!
You can't go wrong at "El Lindero," a classic breakfast/brunch restaurant with authentic food from the "huasteca" region where Tampico is located. Zach and Malú recommend the "cecina", "entomatadas", "empipianadas" and "carne asada a la tampiqueña". Zach always orders the diablo sauce (and regrets it after), Malú is fond of the mole sauce here.
The perfect place for a nice Italian dinner. We usually order serrano ham and arugula pizza, pasta, crepes, margaritas, wine and the tequila hibiscus. You'll love it. (This restaurant is right next to Tera).
