The weather is usually perfect around November. Temperatures typically vary from the mid 60s to the low 80s, great for the beach although a light jacket or shawl might be worth adding to your suitcase.
Yes. To enter Mexico, your passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 months after your travel dates. American citizens do not need a visa to visit Mexico.
Black Tie Formal, please. For ladies that means full-length gowns and for the gentleman suit and tie. We want you to look and feel your best!
The airport, restaurant and hotel staff speak English and nearly all of our wedding guests are bilingual. In the meantime, we recommend downloading the "Duolingo" app to learn the basics while making it fun. Otherwise, you *could* get around with "salúd" and "viva los novios!"
Yes! We have you covered.
Most carriers cover you automatically in Mexico, although this depends on your carrier and plan. For example, if you have an AT&T Unlimited Plan, then you have unlimited talk, text, and data in Tampico. Check with your carrier beforehand to see if you're covered. Most carriers can add an international plan for around $10 a day. We recommend having a phone plan for getting around. If you aren’t covered, most places have WiFi, and you can use WhatsApp to text and call while connected to WiFi.
Mexico's tap water is undrinkable (for locals and tourists alike). But not to worry — there's plenty of drinking water available throughout the city and legally, every restaurant and hotel must serve filtered water and ice, so you don’t have to worry about cocktails.
We highly recommend staying in the hotel "Arenas del Mar" by the beach as this will be the pick-up and drop-off location for the shuttles to and from the venue. This is also where we'll host the welcome party for out-of-towners on Friday! Kindly check the "Travel" tab on this website for more information about the hotel.
Yes! Transportation will be provided to and from the hotel "Arenas del Mar" to the ceremony and reception, and farewell party on Sunday. Details to come. For other transportation within the city, we recommend the ride-sharing platforms Uber (of course!) and Didi. The availability of Uber and Didi cars may be limited, so we also recommend the option of taxis Eco Paraíso.
Yes, we'll add some recommendations here in a couple of months. Feel free to ask Malú or Zach directly.
The ceremony and reception will be held indoors, with plenty of space to dance!
While most places in Tampico accept credit cards, you might need cash for to order a taxi (see above, if not using Uber or Didi) and to purchase items from street vendors. Currency exchanges are easier to do ahead of time at your bank, but there are kiosks at the airport if you forget. It’s a good idea to have $1,000 pesos (=$50) on hand.
It’s customary to tip 10-15% in restaurants (or more depending on the service); simply say “con quince” ("with fifteen") before the server runs your card, because there won't be an opportunity to add a tip later on, unless you have cash. Street vendors do not expect a tip, but a "keep the change" is always appreciated.
Not in the ceremony, she would steal the show! But she might show up to the farewell party, along with Malú’s parent’s dog and their macaw.
Check out the 'Things to Do' tab for a few suggestions! Bonus recommendations: corn on a cup or roasted corn from the beach (so good!), barbacoa tacos, "jaiba a la frank," "tortas de la barda," "cecina," "empipianadas," "enfrijoladas," "enchiladas," and anything that ends with "adas!" In Tampico, you eat very well!
