Jenna and Nick met at a bouldering competition at a rock climbing gym in Colorado in the winter of 2012. Immediately charmed by Nick's easy humor, impressive beard, and climbing skills, Jenna reached out to Nick on Facebook to see if he'd climb with her. Referring to him as "Hot Nick" to all her girlfriends, Jenna was quickly smitten, and thankfully soon learned that the feeling was mutual. Despite the fact that Jenna was so nervous when Nick went in for their first kiss that she turned her head and accidentally rejected him, Nick stuck around. Six years later, Jenna and Nick have moved across the country together, made LA a home together, continued to rock climb, ice climb, travel to weddings near and far and adventure together even though Jenna cries on every airplane. They've been through health challenges, car explosions, stressful film shoots, bouts of long distance, career shifts and have still found themselves laughing at each other in their home together everyday.
After a few years of Nick enduring Jenna's angsty over-thinking writerly dumb brain of irrational fear about futures and knowing when the time is right, Jenna wanted to find a grand way to show Nick she was ready to spend her whole life with him. It didn't take her long to realize exactly what she should do. Seeing as how she asked him out to begin with, it made sense that she should be the one to seal the deal. Under the illusion that she wanted to go to Vegas for her birthday, Jenna and Nick headed out on a road trip with some friends and Jenna's sister flying out from Denver to meet them. Little did Nick know, Jenna had much bigger plans than just a birthday weekend in mind! Nick was excited about a poker tournament, and the master plan was for Jenna and the girls to prep their hotel room for a romantic proposal while Nick lost his money, and then everyone could go to dinner to celebrate. After 7pm came and went, Nick gave Jenna a call. He was seven hours into the poker tournament, had made the top 20, and there was no end in sight -- the game, he said, could go until 4am for all he knew. After a panic attack over how her sister had to catch a flight at midnight and would likely miss the proposal, and many Disney videos to help Jenna calm down, Nick thankfully, finally busted out of the tournament at 11:30pm (he made top 10 and a thousand bucks!). Nick walked into a candlelit, rose petal-decorated hotel room, probably super confused to find such a romantic scene after 12 hours of playing poker. Jenna said some words that she can't even remember now, got down on one knee, opened a box of engraved champagne flutes and asked Nick to marry her. And Nick said those words every woman can't wait to hear: "Are you mad at me for not proposing?" But then he said yes! Jenna said, "I don't know, are you sure? Are you weirded out by this?" And the rest is history. <3
