One lonely Christmas, Carrie messaged Matthew on OkCupid. The thing that initially attracted her to him was his username (SantaWithMuscles) and the fact that he talked about Time Square Elmos in his profile. Matthew thought Carrie was super cute in her photos, especially the one of her wearing big headphones. He wondered what she was listening to in that photo, and if she had good taste in music. If only he knew she was definitely listening to a Broadway musical in that photo, and not The Cure. The two texted for about 3-4 weeks before meeting. Carrie googled the crap out of Matthew and was able to watch the music video on YouTube that his band "Fashions" had just released. She showed everyone this music video. Matthew found Carrie's Instagram and found a video of her singing a Wicked song at the top of her lungs. Despite this find, he still asked her out on a date. Leading up to their first date, they knew quite a lot about each other –– except for one thing. Matthew wouldn’t tell Carrie what he did for a living until they met in person. It was sketchy.

Their first date was dinner and drinks in Brooklyn. On the L train on the way to dinner, Carrie immediately asked what he did for a living. Matthew finally confessed that he sold comedy tickets in Times Square, and that he thought she wouldn’t show if she knew he was one of “those guys”. There’s a chance he was right. They continued to talk about how they both love art and poorly-constructed costumed characters. After getting arepas for dinner, they went to a bar with extremely fancy and expensive drinks –– something very out of character for them, that they have never done again since. Matthew then asked Carrie if she’d like to go check out his new music studio that he had just finished putting together for his band, and she said yes. Matthew guided Carrie through what resembled an old, industrial warehouse, through a series of staircases, metal doors, narrow hallways, into a locked room. Carrie actually went with a boy she had never met before into an abandoned, locked warehouse. They kissed, she’s still alive, and now they’re getting married!

In 2017, when taking their annual trip to Storybook Land, the two went into The Little Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe's shoe. Jokingly, Matthew said "What if I proposed to you in here? haha" One year later in 2018, when taking their annual trip to Storybook Land, Matthew proposed to Carrie inside the shoe! They walked inside the shoe, to find a decrepit, rotting scene of animatronics behind a glass wall. It's a scene of a stork and a dirty baby in a crib and the crib is supposed to rock but it's broken...it's by far the worst animatronic scene in the park. Carrie walks in, and says "Ohhhh.... this is the CREEPIEST." Matthew gets down on one knee and says, "Babe. Will you marry me?"
