FAQs

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

We request formal attire -- long dresses and suits. We are embracing the vibrant colors of summertime, and encourage you to do the same! Please note that full skirts twirl the best during contra dancing, and that mountain evenings can get chilly.

Question

How will we get to the venue?

Answer

Twickenham requires a shuttle to get to and from the venue. We will be coordinating shuttles to pick up and drop off at the West Jefferson Holiday Inn, any houses with more than 8 people, and the Ashe County Park (for those who are driving). We will be requesting your lodging and/or pickup location information in your RSVP to coordinate!

Question

What is Contra Dancing?

Answer

Contra is a fun and easy line-dance, similar to square dancing, with origins in English Folk Dances. With a "caller" walking you through the moves, it is easy to learn and enjoy without any prior experience. Get ready to twirl, spin, and laugh! We will dance to a live band and have a grand ole time! If you want to impress Sydney and Michael, look for a Contra Dance happening near you (or there are plenty of short Youtube tutorials to practice with a friend).

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

Please only come with those who are listed on your invitation and RSVP link. If you need to make any adjustments, please reach out and we will see what we can do!

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

Yes! The kids who have been included on invitations are expected and welcome. We love them. We know weddings can be long and boring for the younger ones, so please note that there is outside area to play and the next door Twickenham House has a movie room and game room.

Question

I have a food allergy, can I make a special request?

Answer

Yes, please! There will certainly be plenty of gluten free and/or vegan options (for us), but our chefs are happy to make other accommodations, too.
