It'd be awesome to paint a romantic picture of the night Chelsea and Jason met—maybe a cool breeze, a sky full of stars, the faint sound of crickets in the background—but honestly? They have no clue. It was just another night in Rancho Cucamonga (where they both grew up). They were 17 and looking for a fun way to kill time before curfew. What Chelsea DOES remember though is tagging along with her best friend, Donald, to his friend, Andrew Long’s house. As soon as she stepped into the backyard, her eyes locked onto a guy with shoulder-length dirty blonde hair, tight black pants, and an air of mystery. Cute. But also? Completely silent. Jason was so shy he barely blinked, let alone spoke to her. Hours later, as Donald and Chelsea drove away, Donald casually mentioned, “Oh, Jason Nott thinks you’re cute.” Turns out, Jason had waited until Chelsea was out of earshot to confess this to his friends earlier in the evening—too shy to say it to her face. She was shocked he had said anything but quickly responded with "I think Jason Nott is cute!" They drove off without any plans to see Andrew or Jason anytime soon but Chelsea was determined to get to know this mysterious musician eventually.
Two weeks later, fate (and teenage social circles) led them to the same house party. Both were excited to see each other, but neither wanted to show it. Chelsea, assuming Jason was a rebellious rockstar, invited him to take a shot of Malibu rum with her to break the ice. What she didn’t know? That was Jason’s first time drinking, and he did it only to impress her. The result? One very drunk Jason tumbling into a trash can before passing out on the garage floor. Chelsea, assuming he wasn’t interested, left the party disappointed that they didn't exchange numbers or hang out more. Jason woke up moments later, asking where she went. But by then, she was gone. Shortly after, Jason left for tour, Chelsea started college, and just like that—their story was put on pause.
For five years, life took them in different directions—Jason playing music on tour all over the world, Chelsea diving into college adventures. But somehow, their paths kept crossing: a music festival here, a party in LA there. Each time, the timing wasn’t right. Until one October night in 2012.
Jason and Andrew threw a Halloween party at their Hollywood apartment. Chelsea, now a TV Casting intern in LA, decided to drop by with her best friend, Tammy. At one point in the night the party migrated to the rooftop. Their apartment building sat at the base of the Hollywood Hills so the roof boasted epic panoramic views and encapsulated the same sense of endless possibilities that attracts dreamers to LA. After 5 years of missed connections, Jason and Chelsea finally found themselves having a moment to connect. They both got lost in the conversation and magic of the city lights so by the time they came to it they realized the rest of the party had gone back downstairs and it was just the two of them. Jason told Chelsea about being bummed he never got to talk to her the night of the Malibu rum shots when they were 17 and Chelsea knew the attraction between the two was still there. As they headed back inside, Chelsea sensed that even after all those years, Jason still wasn’t bold enough to make a move. So, she took charge—pushing him against the wall and kissing him before casually walking back into the party. Jason? Stunned. But finally, ready to see where this could go.
Jason & Chelsea started finding every excuse and opportunity to hang out. Chelsea would drive from El Segundo to Hollywood after her internship to hang out with Jason and Jason would make his way down to OC. It was a a few weeks in that they met up at a Grouplove concert (one of their favorite bands) and Chelsea knew her feelings were real the moment Jason took her hand to dance when the band covered "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" by Whitney Houston. They dated for two years, filling their time with tons of concerts (including Jason's when he first started his band Beachwood Coyotes), attending music festivals, traveling to New York for Chelsea's favorite holiday (New Years Eve), and always on the hunt for the best dirty martini around Los Angeles. They were young, broke, and happy. In the beginning of 2014 Chelsea went solo traveling through Asia. It was then that Chelsea meditated for the first time and started having intuitive downloads. Over the next few months the messages started becoming very loud and very clear. One Friday afternoon in late May, Chelsea went to Jason's place after work expecting to stay the weekend there. To both of their surprise, Chelsea broke up with Jason that evening. She couldn't explain it other than a strong gut response. There was no rhyme or reason- they were happy and in love. But something came over Chelsea and she listened to her intuition. It was an act of faith and divine trust. One that would take the better half of the next decade for either Jason or her to understand.
For the next 6 years Jason and Chelsea lived their own lives. Chelsea dove deeper into her spiritual work, got a dog named Tux, traveled the world and bought a house in Los Angeles. Jason continued making music and went on tour, he also traveled extensively and ventured into entrepreneurship opportunities. They both dated other people and in their time being single learned to date themselves as well. In 2017, when Jason's stepfather passed away, Chelsea reached out and attended Bill's wake after Jason invited her. This was the beginning of a new friendship between the two. A year later, Chelsea went to Peru for an Ayahuasca retreat. During one of the ceremonies, Jason’s energy came to her—offering a sense of home she didn’t even realize she missed. When she returned to LA, she reached out. Jason told her, “One of the greatest things you ever did was break up with me.” Because in that time apart, they had both grown into the people they were meant to be.
A few months after deciding to stay in touch—and yet another missed connection when Jason had a personal emergency and had to cancel plans to hang out with Chelsea after one of his shows—fate (and a LOT of vodka) intervened. One night, after celebrating her best friend Danielle’s birthday a little too hard, Chelsea, in a full blackout state, texted Jason. What could she have possibly sent? A confession? A rambling love note? An embarrassing typo-filled disaster? The next morning, as she pieced together the events of the night before, her phone buzzed. Jason Nott. Panic set in. Terrified, she opened the message thread—only to find out she had texted him: "What are your thoughts on Death Cab for Cutie?" Jason’s reply? "I think we should go see them when they’re in town next month." And just like that, they had a date. At the concert, the energy was undeniable. The music, the nostalgia, the excitement of finally having a real one-on-one moment—it all led to the kiss. Mid-concert, Jason turned to Chelsea and kissed her, and just like that, the world faded away. It wasn’t just a kiss—it was a moment. The kind of thing you only see in movies. Chelsea had never felt anything like it before. But she also knew—despite the fireworks—the timing wasn’t quite right yet. Then, a few days later, Jason showed up at her front door, unannounced. “I’m still in love with you,” he told her. “But I’ll wait for you to be ready.” And that was the moment Chelsea knew she was in trouble. .... If you've read this far then you're probably feeling just as frustrated with Chelsea as Jason did for the last couple years before they finally got together. But just know that it was all in divine timing and it obviously worked out in the end! Fate was always bringing them back to each other!
Two years of spontaneous hangouts, a few angsty love songs Jason wrote about Chelsea, and one adventure up the coast from Mexico later, Jason had had it. It was time for an ultimatum: “Be my girlfriend, or let me go.” Fair enough. Chelsea, on the other hand, was terrified. She had spent years healing, fiercely protecting her independence, and working hard to build a life on her own terms. The idea of a love this real was— overwhelming, to say the least. But after weeks of soul-searching, she realized something: Jason was the exception to every rule she had made to keep herself safe. She realized he was and had always been safety to her so there was no reason to be scared. So, she called him. “Want to spend New Year’s Eve with me?” Jason, completely shocked, knowing what this invitation REALLY meant, didn’t hesitate. “Absolutely.” And they both knew—this was it. No more uncertainty. No more running. No more “almost.” From that moment on, they were each other’s forever.
After three years of navigating a global pandemic, mourning the loss of Jason’s mom, Shari, and eventually moving in together, the timing finally felt right. Jason and Chelsea had been through so much—and proved that as long as they had each other, they could get through anything. On October 15, 2023, Jason pulled off a full-circle moment. He got them box seats to see Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service at the Hollywood Bowl—a nod to the night they fell in love all over again back in 2018. The night was messy, magical, and exactly how it was meant to be. Mid-show, Jason got down on one knee. With his mom’s engagement ring in hand, he asked Chelsea to marry him. She wasn’t surprised—her intuition had already told her this was thee night—but the out-of-body excitement hit her anyway. Saying yes wasn’t just about their future; it was also about honoring their past. Wearing Shari’s ring made it even more meaningful, a symbol of her love, her blessing, and her presence still with them as they step into this next chapter together.
And here we are, loved ones! From a chance meeting at 17 to years of twists, turns, and timing that never quite lined up… until it did. Jason and Chelsea have spent half their lives growing, evolving, and proving that real love only gets stronger through every challenge. This is a love story for the ages, one full of adventure, growth, and undeniable love. Now, on October 15, 2025, they’re FINALLY tying the Nott in France! It’s been a wild ride, but the best part? This is only the beginning. So, raise a glass, get your passports ready, and let’s make some memories—because this love story deserves an epic celebration! 🥂✨
