Nick and Nicky first met at the world famous dive bar, Chilkoot Charlie’s or “Koots” as it’s known by locals. Nicky was due to leave Alaska in five days and had heard she couldn't leave without going dancing there. Unforunately for the dancing, the place was dead for a Saturday night. Fortunately, they had outdoor games so Nick and Nicky met playing giant jenga. Afterwards, Nicky, adamant to find good music, wandered the bar until she found some, and lo and behold, the only open seat at the bar was next to the guy she had recently met, Nick. They spent the next few hours lost in conversation until the bar closed. The next day was their first date where they took a bike ride along the Tony Knowles coastal trail. Two days later they went to Matanuska glacier. It was then that Nicky decided to stay in Alaska because she wasn't ready to leave Nick behind so soon. The rest is history!
On Valentine's Day they rented a gorgeous cabin in Girdwood and Nick taught Nicky to snowboard at the Alyeska resort. He took her on the tram to the fancy restaurant on the top of the mountain where they ate a delicious meal with fancy deserts. After dinner, at sunset, with no else around, they walked to a small side building (The Roundhouse, with the view pictured in the photo below) and Nick turned to Nicky and said, "This reminds me of one our songs, what was it, oh yeah.." He then started singing the first two verses of "This is it" by Scotty McCreery. At the end of second verse that ends with "for the right words to say, for the right time and place, for me to get on one knee" he stopped singing, said "This is it" and got down one on knee and proposed. Nicky was rendered speechless and of course she said "Yes!"
