Dog Mountain is fun, safe, and a moderately strenuous hike. The hike is about <3 hours round trip. It's fairly steep, so bring lots of water. The walking path is gradual, so sneakers are most comfortable. We have even seen barefoot hikers...after all, we are in Oregon! - Getting there - 20min drive from Hood River. You can Uber to Dog Mountain Trailhead, or drive yourself but be sure to bring a $5 bill for the parking lot. - PERMIT REQUIRED - A permit (incremental to the parking pass) is required for hiking at Dog Mountain on Saturdays and Sundays between March 31 and July 1. Enjoy an incredibly scenic bike ride to a small town (<1,000 population) up the Columbia River. There are some uphill portions, but those are downhill on the way back! Though there are other bike rental stores in town. - Bike Rental - Discover Bicycles 210 E State St, Hood River, OR 97031 (541) 386-4820 - Path - from Discover Bycicles to Columbia River Hwy State Trail to downtown Mosier
The Hood River Marina is right downtown and is a great place to spend a few hours. Wear your bathing suit and explore the sand bar. Some years, it extends almost halfway into the river! Or, bring a towel and relax on the sandy beach and watch all the surfers in the marina.
