How We Met

2014

Luke and Katie are college sweethearts. They met at Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio through a mutual friend, Erika Winland, during the beginning of Katie’s Junior year of college and Luke’s senior year of college. Erika told Katie she had a friend who she thought Katie would want to meet. The same day, Katie was at a bar (The Airport Tavern in Lore City, Ohio) celebrating a friends 21st birthday and by coincidence ran into Luke at the bar. Katie and Luke instantly connected before Erika had the chance to introduce them. They spent almost everyday together and became each other’s formal dates for Katie’s sorority Chi Alpha Nu and Luke’s fraternity Kappa Sigma. They frequently went on dates to the movie theater in Zanesville, to Theos for dinner in Cambridge, and loved to share meal deals from the Bait Shop on campus during their lunch break.

Our Journey

2015-2021

Katie and Luke have been together for 10 years, dating since November 23, 2014. After Katie graduated from Muskingum University, Katie and Luke moved in together into a cute apartment in Zanesville, Ohio where they lived for about 3 years. Zanesville is close to where Luke grew up and where Katie and Luke graduated from college. In 2018, they decided to start a new chapter by moving to the East Coast in New Jersey, where Katie grew up. They brought home the cutest puppy, Ruby, in 2019 from a farm in Ohio and bought a house in a cute quaint and charming town called High Bridge, NJ in 2020. They both share the passion of working in Special Education at nearby public schools, Dunellen and Bound Brook.

Our Engagement

2022

Katie went back to school in 2019 to achieve her dream of earning a Master’s Degree in Social Work to become a licensed School Social Worker. Katie graduated from Rutgers University in May 2022 and Luke wanted to celebrate this accomplishment. Luke planned an incredible vacation to Greece. Part of this planning included a full Google Slides presentation that had hotel and excursion options that Katie was told to pick from. We took off for our Greece adventure on August 9, 2022. We started in Athens touring the Parthenon, Olympic Stadium, the Plakka, and eating delicious food. We left Athens by plane to the largest Greek island, Crete, where we stayed at the gorgeous Island Hotel with beautiful views of the Aegean Sea. The first day at the resort, Luke secretly set-up Katie’s phone to take a video on the balcony of the hotel (Katie thought they were posing for a photo) and got down on one knee. Katie said “YES” and they spent the rest of the night celebrating and FaceTiming family and friends. After spending a few days in Crete, Katie and Luke traveled by boat to Santorini, Ios, and then back to Athens where they celebrated their engagement before heading back to the United States.

Our Wedding

2024

The Brunswick Islands of North Carolina are a special place to Luke and Katie. Katie's family vacationed on Oak Island for many years and brought Luke and Katie along for the ride. Katie and Luke fell in love with the small coastal town of Southport and the warm ocean water on Oak Island. In May 2021, Katie's mom, Sally, set off on a new adventure and moved to North Carolina to oversee the new home that Sally and Terry were building together in St. James. Katie was able to move with her mom for the Summer, working remotely, and helping her mom settle into the area. Katie's parents are now happily residents of Southport and this place has become a second home to Katie and Luke. It was only fitting that Katie and Luke tie the knot here!
