TRAVEL TIPS

Travel in D.C. comes in MANY forms - we've got great public transportation (even bikes, and scooters), and highly suggest trying the system. It's an experience! We bike everywhere in the city, so if you're up for that, make sure you've got a helmet. Fly into any of the three airports - BWI, DCA, or IAD (AND DCA is the closest to the city). If you do fly BWI, its equidistance from our house as DCA is. BWI tips: If you aren't renting a car, take the MARC train into D.C. which will drop you at Union Station. You can get anywhere by metro mostly. Metro: Grab yourself a metro card at any station, and you can use this interchangeably with the bus and underground subway systems. Hopefully this is open for COVID purposes, and we for sure recommend bringing hand sani /your mask everywhere! Rental Cars: Get it from the airport, you've got options. Also, if you're a Costco holder, they have pretty good deals.

Train

Marc Train

Don't worry about getting your ticket online, you can easily get it before getting on the train where the shuttle drops you off. AND you can purchase it online too, if you want! Take the shuttle from BWI to the Marc Train, and into the city (Union Station).

Flight

BWI

30 minutes from our place! 40ish minutes from the city, and can take Marc Train into the city. Generally cheaper than DCA....

Flight

DCA - Reagan National Airport

Closest to the city, and can take the metro into the city easily.

Travel Note

Airbnb etc.

We recommend getting an airbnb, as people are always renting out places all over D.C. and it will be the most comfortable. There ARE hotels, AND.... go with a local stay-cation if you can. :-)

Travel Note

Parking for Ceremony

There is NO (good) PARKING near the ceremony. We highly recommend taking public transit, taking a rideshare like Lyft or Uber, or parking in the city and walking down to the “mall”- aka DC green space where the monuments are, and the ceremony will be held, near WWII Memorial. This day kicks off the Cherry Blossom Festival, and there places to park around the city (mostly expensive). We do recommend parking at Anacostia Skate Rink (for free) and catching an Uber/Lyft with a group over and back from ceremony. BUT if you just drive, there’s these parking options on the website.

Train

DC Metro/Bus

You will need to find a metro station to get a metro card (you can refill these at any station) and use this for the weekend, if you prefer! They work with the bus line too, and generally you can find train/bus routes relatively accurately through google maps etc.!

Travel Note

Airbnb. Northeast/ Northwest!

We highly suggest using platforms like airbnb or vrbo to find unique places to stay all around dc. If you do this, you will find that either in Northeast (DC is broken down into 4 Cardinal direction quadrants) which is where our home and the Saturday BBQ is, or in Northwest/Southeast near the capital is the best places to stay! If you’re looking for near things and happening places, we suggest looking at Adams Morgan area or U Street, if you want proximity check out areas near the mall or WW2 Memorial, and if you want residential low key you can find anything near our home at 2730 28th St NE Washington DC 20018! We hope you find there are plenty of beautiful places to stay at, and that your trip is magical- like you are!

For all the days along the way
