FAQs

Ask us anything! Here's a few we can answer so far:
Question

Can I bring a +1?

Answer

Yes. This weekend is meant to be an open invitation (literally on the mall) and will have everyone participating in some way shape or form. We're not head counting for food (ish), so when things run out that's it!

Question

Do we need to bring a gift?

Answer

NO! We prefer cards, and your presence however that looks (virtual or in-person). We will have also a way for you to help out during the weekend if you want -- it takes a village!

Question

How do I dress?

Answer

Dress as you want! There will be lots of walking around, outdoor activities, and games so wear proper shoes/bring the attires. Bring socks if you want to skate!

Question

Why on March 20 -- and on a SUNDAY?!

Answer

Katie's grandparents were married on this day, and also.. it's the Spring Equinox. The changing of the seasons from winter to spring come with new blooms of life, longer days of sunshine, and for everyone a shift and change. It's symbolic of the journey of life, and also Katie was born on the autumnal equinox (when her grandfather Hamann passed) and also her grandmother Hamann passed on the winter solstice. Changing of the seasons are core to showing the world that change is constant, and we continue the cycle of life.

Question

When/is there a reception?

Answer

We plan to host people all weekend in various ways, and what's important to us is spending time with YOU so there's not realllllly a typical reception, just some parties you can join in on if you want :-)

Question

Are kids invited?

Answer

Of course! We love kiddos. Do note that there will be plenty of room for kids to play in Anacostia Skating Rink, and the ceremony of course as well.

Question

Is there a shuttle?

Answer

No. There IS plenty of public transportation (bus, metro, scooters, bikes, you name it!) We recommend using these, and/or catching a ride-share wherever you want to go!

Question

Do we reallly know what we're doing?

Answer

Not yet. :-) One day.

Question

Do I need to be vaccinated to attend events?

Answer

No. All events will take place outdoors in open spaces for this reason. We do want you to be aware though, As of January 15, 2022, Washington DC requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination for all patrons 12 years of age and older for most indoor establishments in the District of Columbia. This means that in order to attend indoor events taking place in Washington, COVID-19 vaccination documentation must be provided.

Question

Will the Cherry Blossoms be in bloom?

Answer

Only Mother Nature knows! This day marks the first day of the Cherry Blossom Festival. More blossoms are likely to be in bloom in the city (warmer) than on the mall, and we shall see!

Question

Do we have wedding colors?

Answer

Nope! Wear what ya want, keep it to your liking- and think SPRING!

Question

How can we help?

Answer

Add your name to this list- wherever you would like if you want! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11d5-XKsu6wU5azD-rovQlvNZ94zCc4yUxYzGC3Fs6jA/edit

Question

Is there parking for the ceremony?

Answer

No. We suggest taking Uber/Lyft or public transport into the city. There IS parking at the park after the ceremony though.

Question

Is there parking for the after ceremony roller rink?

Answer

Yes! Plenty of parking here!:)

Question

What are we eating?

Answer

Saturday: Typical Rafael BBQ; carne asada (skirt steak marinated), beans, rice, salsas, guacamole and tortillas! All types of beers, wines, alcohols- specifically DC Brau. Sunday: Dominican food: Chicken (pollo guisado), different types of rice (con COnCON!), beans and coconut, greens, yuca. Ya tu sabes. Water and rum, most likely;)

For all the days along the way
