TRAVEL TIPS!

ACCOMODATION - There are plenty of boutique hotels & Airbnbs for a variety of budgets - see recs below. We suggest you stay in the central area of town (within 0.3 miles of the Parroquia) to be walking distance to our venue, Casa Cien :) San Miguel de Allende is a popular wedding & travel destination so book early FLIGHTS - three international airports within 1-3.5 hours drive, several flights a day from the US and plenty of transfer options. See below for more details on each CLOTHING & CLIMATE - in May, the days will be perfect summer hitting 80-85°F (26-30°C); nights can be cool, 55-60°F (12-15°C) so do pack warm layers. The climate is dry, but there is a small chance of rain showers ELEVATION - SMA sits at 6,200ft (1,900m) so take it easy on the first day and drink plenty of water! COVID-19 - please do get vaccinated if you can! We will update this page as testing requirements are refined closer to the time OTHER - grab some cash (pesos) for taxis, bars & street vendors

(MEX) JUAREZ INTL, MEXICO CITY, MX

Likely the most popular option for our UK and Europe guests, flying into Mexico city requires a 3.5hr drive to SMA. There are rental car options as well as group or private shuttles. This travel option is made more enjoyable if you stay a night (or several) in Mexico City, taking an early bus the next day from the Central Bus Station in Mexico City out to SMA. Once at the SMA Bus Station, it's just a 5-10min cab ride to the town center. There will be a bit more traveling overall, however, for our UK & Europe guests we think Mexico City is a travel destination not to be missed. (BJX) DEL BAJIO AIRPORT, LEON / GUANAJUATO

The Leon airport is about an hour and thirty minutes from SMA (closer to two hours with traffic). It is the most used by Americans with connections in Dallas, Houston and LAX (our UK & Europe guests can connect in the US too). Volaris offers direct flights from San Jose and Oakland on certain days. Wednesday, May 4 and Friday, May 6 Volaris flight 993 departs at 2:33 pm from OAK and arrives at 8:24 pm at BJX. Thursday, May 5 Volaris flight 933 departs at 2:15 pm from SJC and arrives at 8:00 pm at BJX. There are plenty of rental car, taxi & shuttle options. The Queretaro airport is about an hour away from SMA, Mexico and also a popular route from the US with connections in Dallas, Houston and LAX . Hotel Apapacho

The Hotel Apapacho is a beautiful 5-star boutique design hotel with six rooms that blend history, modern conveniences and a touch of luxury. When we visited, we wished we had stayed here!. We loved the look & feel of this place, the fact that each room has its own private patio or balcony, and the curated art collection that reflects the creative spirit of San Miguel de Allende. It also has a gorgeous roof deck bar with views over the city. Finally at <3 min walk from the ceremony venue and <10 min from the center of town, the location is hard to beat!

Casa de Sierra Nevada, A Belmond Hotel

We love this five star Belmond hotel in San Miguel de Allende (so much we stopped by the gorgeous lobby courtyard to dine and drink no less than five times during our last visit). The hotel is split across several buildings, all within walking distance of each other and located in the center of town, as well as walking distance to Casa Cien. There is a pool accessible to all guests, and everything about this hotel is upscale and beautiful.

Cantera 1910 Hotel Boutique

Cantra 1910 Hotel is a beautiful, newly renovated boutique hotel with restaurant, bar, a shared lounge and garden located in the center of town. The manager Antonio is warm, gracious and friendly. Featuring family rooms, this property also provides guests with a terrace. The accommodations also offers a 24-hour front desk, room service and currency exchange for guests.

Hotel Casaliza

This beautiful boutique hotel is around the corner from Casa Cien and offers incredibly affordable rates. You can book at the above website or find rooms on AirBnB. If you go the AirBnB route, note you will be given one room per every two guests you book (it can be a little confusing). We stayed at this hotel while visiting San Miguel de Allende prior to the wedding, and it was perfectly located and incredibly beautiful. Just note, it will not have the full suite of services as some of the other hotels nearby, but the rooms, location, and price (approximately $50/night per room) are hard to beat.

There are plenty of 2-7+ bedroom villa rentals that are in or walking distance to the center of town. These can be highly affordable (sometimes as low as US$50-100 / room per night) and a great option for groups of our friends or family.
