Flight

SJO

This is the closest international airport to the venue. From SJO you can rent a car and drive to Santa Teresa or you can take a domestic flight to Tambor Airport and rent a car or take a taxi from there (see the FAQs for more details). We suggest using google flights to find the best deals. For most airports, you should be able to find flights for under $400. It could be worth waiting to book a flight if the current price exceeds that.

Flight

Domestic Flight

Taking a domestic flight from San Jose airport to Tambor is by far the easiest and quickest option to arrive in Santa Teresa. The flights run daily and are only 25 minutes, not to mention quite an outstanding view. There are two airlines (Costa Rica Green Airways and Sansa Air) that offer daily flights to Tambor, which is then only a 35-minute drive to Mal Pais and Santa Teresa. If you prefer our wedding planner (Marianne@blissweddingscostarica.com) can also arrange for a private charter flight from San Jose to Tambor. This can comparable in cost to the airlines if you have a large enough group. It also gives you the freedom of arranging a time most suitable for you and your group.

Rental Car

Alamo

After landing in San Jose you can get a rental car from the airport and drive to Santa Teresa. The best and quickest way is straight on Route 27 for about an hour and thirty minutes, which takes you to Puntarenas, which is where you would have to take the ferry across the gulf to the town of Paquera. The ferry schedules are seasonal so make sure to confirm the times prior to planning your drive. Once the ferry docks in Paquera, 70 minutes later, you simply follow the main road straight to Mal Pais for approximately an hour, which will put you at the crossroads in Playa Carmen. From here you head south for a few minutes to arrive in Santa Teresa. We recommend renting from a company that has a local shop in Santa Teresa, like Budget or Alamo Rent-a-car. If you need help booking these please contact Marianne@blissweddingscostarica.com. She is our wedding planner and will appoint her travel assistant, Nerea, to help you. This is our favorite mode of travel!

Travel Note

Puntarenas - Paquera Ferry

This is the quickest way to get from San José to Santa Teresa by car. The ferry runs multiple times a day and you can click here to get the schedule. When heading to the town, you will want to drive to Puntarenas and take the ferry to Paquera (it will be in reverse upon your departure). NOTE: You might not be able to purchase tickets online. Make sure you arrive early (30 minutes or so) to buy tickets (boletas). You may want to download an offline version of google maps to help guide you to the ferry. To get to the ferry terminal, just follow the main road, Avenue Central, all the way to the end of the point and take a right. The first step is to get your car in line (You do this before you buy tickets). Buy tickets from Boleteria Ferry a Paquera. They do not take big bills so please exchange your $ into Colones! NOTE: Weekend travel can be busy! Make sure you arrive at least an hour early on the return trip! More tips: twoweeksincostarica.com/puntarenas-paquera-ferry/

Travel Note

Shuttle To and From Airport

There are multiple shuttle services that can take you from SJO to Santa Teresa. Most are around $50 if you take the shuttle to the ferry. You can also take a shuttle to a taxi boat which comes at a higher cost but will get you to your destination faster. Another company to consider if you're interested in the taxi boat option is Zuma Tours.

Travel Note

Carpool

Santa Teresa is a very small, walkable town that does not require a car. For that reason, we've created a carpool spreadsheet for those who are interested in sharing transportation to and from SJO for convenience and cost. We encourage our friends and family to self-organize by filling out this spreadsheet and reaching out to one another to coordinate. Please indicate if you are offering a ride or in need of a ride. We hope this eases the travel burden.

House Or Rental

AirBnB

Santa Teresa is a quiet surf town and does not have large hotels, instead, it offers amazing bungalows and boutique condos. That's why we highly recommend using AirBnB for your stay. You can find luxurious and yet affordable accommodations very close to the venue and beach. The wedding will be held at Casas Capitan (you can find its location on google maps) which is located on the North side of town. If you book an AirBnb, we recommend finding somewhere in walking distance to Casas Capitan.

Hotel

Nantipa Hotel

Santa Teresa, Provincia de Puntarenas, Costa Rica
 +1 855-626-8472

Nantipa is a beautiful hotel on what is perhaps the most gorgeous section of beach in all of Costa Rica. The hotel is new and it is still undergoing its full construction. However, it is our favorite upscale accommodation nearest the venue (1.2 miles). For similar, but further from the center of town accommodations of this kind, we recommend http://florblanca.com/ and https://www.latitude10resort.com (both are approximately .25 miles from the venue).

House Or Rental

MarAmar Bungalows

MarAmar Bungalows is the perfect spot for families or friends looking to rent a house together. They are located very close to the venue and offer modern accommodations including a kitchen, a beautiful pool, and pristine indoor/outdoor canopy lounging. They are located on the opposite side of the street from the beach but are just a quick walk from the ocean. These condos can often be found on AirBnb for cheaper prices than going through the real estate management company.

Hotel

Zeneidas Surf Garden Hostel

Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica
 +506 2100 3940

If you're looking for the surf hostel experience, go no further than Zeneidas Surf Garden. It's the only hostel located on the beach in Santa Teresa and you'll definitely get your surf, yoga, and Pura Vida fill here!
