How We Met

Nate and Kate's Blind Date

Kaitlyn's Version: It all started in 2017 at Purdue University with a message asking if anyone needed a date to the Acacia Fraternity formal, because I wanted to attend a fraternity formal before graduating. Nate was looking for a date, but suggested we meet for coffee before committing to attend formal with a stranger. Much to my confusion upon arrival, Nate, who suggested the place, didn't drink coffee or tea at the time. It went so well that we decided to see the new Thor movie together. I spent the whole movie with my hand face up on our shared armrest trying to get Nate to hold my hand. He was absolutely oblivious, and I was convinced he didn't like me. Later, we went to his fraternity formal in Chicago. However, the restaurant confused the formal with a networking event, so we danced to generic music in a roped off section in the middle of the restaurant surrounded by customers dining. I made Nate hold my hand on the walk after "because my feet hurt". Tired of waiting for him to make his move, I finally asked "Would it be okay if I kissed you?" and he said "Uh... Yeah". The rest is history. Nate's Version: I heard that a friend of a friend was looking for a date for my fraternity's winter formal. Myself dateless, I reached out and she proposed we meet up beforehand. That was a lot better than my plan of just meeting her on the way to the 36 hour formal. So we arranged to meet at the best, chill meeting place, Starbucks. She was already there and told me she'd be the one wearing a gray shirt. I look around and I see a blonde at a bartop table staring deeply at her laptop, wearing a gray shirt. But I thought she was way too pretty and therefore not who I was looking for. So I kept looking. However, after a few seconds she called out my name and I realized that she was wayyy out of my league. She still is!

Pittsburgh Wedding Tradition

The Pittsburgh Cookie Table

Pittsburgh is home to a unique wedding tradition, the Pittsburgh cookie table. The cookies for the Pittsburgh cookie table are homemade by friends and family. These serve as a special wedding dessert made with love with plenty left over for guests to take with them at the end of the night. Some cookie tables can be very extensive, with the world record of 88,425 cookies on a Pittsburgh cookie table! We are not planning on even approaching that many cookies, but we are excited to include this Pittsburgh tradition in our wedding celebration. We invite you, our close friends and family, to help us embrace the cookie table tradition by providing cookies or simply enjoying the homemade cookies at the wedding. The cookie table is set up in advance of the wedding, so if you would like to add cookies to the table you should contact Kaitlyn’s aunt, Lynette Gerstel, to arrange for your cookies to be collected the Thursday before the wedding or earlier. Feel free to reach out to her at (412)780-0394 or lynettegerstel@yahoo.com
