It was the perfect combination of dating app filters, the right place, and perfect timing that finally brought their paths together. Mariana was born in Paraguay and lived in Japan, Florida, Northern Ireland, and Switzerland before meeting Shawn. Shawn, on the other hand, was born in Oklahoma and lived in Minnesota, South Korea, and Australia. Incredibly, their lives nearly crossed at least twice before — in 2019 in Indonesia, and again in 2022 in the Netherlands. But it seems the magic had its own timing. When both had grown a little resigned to the idea of being on their own, the algorithm (and a bit of luck) stepped in. Mariana loves baking, and Shawn loves bread (as well as some other baked goods)… and that’s how their first conversation began. Just a couple of messages later, Shawn suggested a first date in Guthrie, OK — a perfect halfway point between Stillwater and Norman. On a hot June afternoon, they met for the first time at the Grazioso art gallery. Between artwork, laughter, and curiosity, a special connection began to grow. A stroll through town followed, dinner at The Guthrie Depot, drinks at The Wander Inn… and seven hours later, they both knew something meaningful was beginning. They’ll both say the other didn’t show clear signs of interest, but the truth is — the messages didn’t stop the next day. A week later came their second date in Stillwater: it began at the Oklahoma State University Museum of Art, continued with a visit to Petco (according to Shawn, buying supplies for an incoming puppy was a “very couple-like” activity), and ended at Zannotti’s Wine Bar. That warm summer night started at a garden table and finished inside, taking shelter from the rain — with sparks and electricity in the air. But what truly sealed their story happened a few days later, when Shawn joined Mariana to pick up her dog, Pippa, in McAlester. Pippa already knew Mariana and was thrilled to see her, but when she met Shawn, she immediately ran to him and slept in his lap the entire ride back. They say dogs have a great instinct for recognizing good people, and since Pippa is the best dog, Mariana decided to trust her judgment. On July 6th, 2024, they decided to make their relationship official. Since then, they’ve shared countless adventures — camping in freezing temperatures in New Mexico, Shawn’s first trip to Latin America (Paraguay!), thousands of miles between Stillwater and Norman, family gatherings, new and old friends… and some difficult moments they faced together. Today, Mariana and Shawn — and of course, Pippa — are ready for the greatest adventure of their lives: getting married and starting a family. Aquella noche cálida de verano empezó en una mesa del jardín y terminó dentro, refugiados de la lluvia… con chispas y electricidad en el aire. Pero lo que realmente selló su historia ocurrió unos días después, cuando Shawn acompañó a Mariana a buscar a Pippa, su perrita, en McAlester. Pippa ya conocía a Mariana y estaba feliz de verla, pero al conocer a Shawn corrió directamente hacia él y durmió en su regazo durante todo el viaje de regreso. Dicen que los perros tienen un gran instinto para reconocer a las buenas personas, y como Pippa es la mejor perrita, Mariana decidió confiar en su juicio. El 6 de julio de 2024, decidieron formalizar su relación y, desde entonces, han vivido incontables aventuras: acampar en temperaturas bajo cero en Nuevo México, el primer viaje de Shawn a América Latina (¡Paraguay!), miles de millas entre Stillwater y Norman, fiestas familiares, nuevos y viejos amigos… y también algunos momentos tristes que enfrentaron juntos. Hoy, Mariana y Shawn —y por supuesto, Pippa— están listos para la aventura más importante de sus vidas: casarse y comenzar una familia. Con enorme alegría, los invitan a ser parte de su historia.
