The two both decided to swipe right on Hinge, when their phones then notified them of a new match. Riley was the first to respond, promising a date in the future. One week later while in Pocasset Cape Cod, Riley received a text from Sarah reminding him of that promise. So on July 22nd, 2022 the two met at the Roof bar in Salem Massachusetts, where Sarah had started her first travel nurse contract. With Riley being a police officer and Sarah being a nurse, the conversation quickly turned into a swapping of first responder war stories that was anything but appropriate dinner talk. Funny, horrific, crazy and gross tales from their jobs of blood and guts made customers move seats but only drew Riley and Sarah closer to each other. However, their similar career fields was not the only commonality they shared. Over the next several dates that summer they found a shared interest of hiking, national parks, music, food, and of course travel. They spent the rest of the summer going on dates, trips to Cape Cod and Boston all while continuously laughing at each other's shared sense of humor. Yet in early October of 2022 those times together were coming to an end due to Sarah getting ready to move onto her next travel nurse contract in Seattle. They knew in their minds that the "summer fling" had become more than that and were both saddened by the departure. But while Sarah ventured to the West Coast, they would call each other every night and talk for hours. Despite 3,000 miles between them, the two couldn’t stop thinking of each other. Finally, in late November while once again on the phone with Sarah, Riley asked if she would be his girlfriend and she said absolutely not. Just kidding. Sarah was more than thrilled to officially start the relationship. The two would go on to continue a long distance relationship for a year while Sarah traveled the West Coast, visiting each other at least once a month. Then together they drove across the country back to Massachusetts, stopping to hike the many National Parks in between. One day Sarah asked Riley why he decided to make it official with her and he responded, "I just couldn't imagine a life without you in it"
