Rocky Mountain National Park

YMCA of the Rockies
Stop by the Y for beautiful views, indoor roller skating, basketball, horseback riding (this is the best place to do it), and a host of other activities. Fun fact: the Dawsons always come and play basketball here on Christmas Day!
Trail Ridge Road
At 12,000 feet above sea level, Trail Ridge Road is the highest continuous paved road in the United States and a truly spectacular drive through the Rocky Mountain tundra. It's unlike anything you have ever seen. PLEASE NOTE - DO NOT go up to Trail Ridge within your first 24 hours of being in Colorado as the risk of altitude sickness is too great, and be sure to drink lots of water before you do go up!
The Stanley Hotel
One of the most historic hotels in the country, The Stanley served as the inspiration for the Overlook Hotel in Stephen King's 1977 bestselling novel 'The Shining.' Take a haunted tour, have a drink at the gorgeous whiskey bar, dine at the Cascades Restaurant, or relax on the back patio. It's definitely worth a visit to the property!
Lake Estes Marina
Stop by the marina to rent kayaks, paddle boats, paddle boards, bikes, or simply to walk around the lake.
Laura's Fine Candies
Perhaps the most special shop in all of Estes for the Dawson family, Laura's is a family owned and operated store that has been around since 1970, featuring fudge, saltwater taffy, popcorn, caramel apples, and the best ice cream in town. Some of Sarah's favorite Estes memories are of visiting Laura's with her great-grandparents, getting taffy for B-Daddy, and divinity fudge for B-Mommy.
Kind Coffee
The best coffee in Estes Park along with some of the best bagels. Perfect for grabbing a coffee before strolling the riverwalk and exploring downtown. They also have super cute trinkets!
Bird & Jim
Without a doubt some of the best food in Estes Park, the Colorado cuisine here is absolutely exquisite and the decor is true mountain elegance. We recommend making a reservation.
Inkwell & Brew
A lovely coffee and gift shop. It's hard to get out of here without buying a notebook, postcard, puzzle or something else to commemorate your time in Estes.
Snowy Peaks Winery
Hand-crafted wine made in Colorado. Relax with a glass of wine and enjoy the views of the Rocky Mountains from the tasting room.
Fun City
An Estes Park icon, the Dawsons have enjoyed "the rainbow slide" for generations since it opened in 1969. Equal fun for both kids and adults, there are also go-karts and bumper boats.
THE BARREL - Estes Park
Craft beer, wine, spirits and food trucks abound at this indoor/outdoor beer garden with mountain views. Colorado holds the title of state with the second-most breweries in the nation with six breweries per every 100,000 residents, so definitely try some local varieties!
Historic Park Theater and Cafe
Visit the oldest operating cinema in the western United States! Built in 1913, The Park Theatre is beautiful to look at or see a movie in, as it's nestled downtown just next to the river.
Ed's Cantina & Grill
A favorite of the Dawson family, at Ed's you'll find reliably good Mexican food and extra large margaritas with beautiful riverside seating in the heart of downtown Estes.
Estes Park Aerial Tramway
Take the aerial tram to Prospect Mountain's summit, where there are panoramic views, trails & a cafe. Depending on covid restrictions, reservations may be required. A truly gorgeous experience!
Mustang Mountain Coaster
If you have never been on a mountain coaster - also known as an alpine slide or summer toboggan - this is your chance! Enjoy beautiful views as you make your way down the mountain, controlling your own speed. It's so much fun!

A wonderful family-owned restaurant. Good any time of the day, but they offer an especially delicious brunch. Right in the center of downtown. Make a reservation!

Colorado Cherry Company at Loveland
If you have extra time on your way back to Denver, taking the Loveland canyon is a stunning drive and it gives you an excuse to stop at the famous Colorado Cherry Company shop. So many goodies and perfect for take-home souvenirs! They also sell these items at The Stanley in Estes Park.
