A classic tale of meeting on - you guessed it - Tinder. Our first meetup was the 9th of December, 2016 in Vancouver, Canada. Sarah was fresh off the plane from Ireland on a new adventure working and travelling in Canada, Kevin had just finished his first marathon in Portland and was considering a move to Germany. Until that fateful day. Our first date was already a good indication of our future together and symbolised common interests: Vietnamese food and craft beer! We met, we ate, we fell in love!
Turns out things were going well! Kevin (finally) persuaded Sarah that running could be fun, and we enjoyed everything that Vancouver had to offer (the list is endless). So why leave? Well, Sarah's 2-year Canadian visa was coming to an end, prompting the question on what we would do if she was denied her Canadian permanent residency. Kevin was eyeing a promising startup in Munich. Lots of discussions around moving to Europe (Germany?) surfaced, but alas Sarah got her residency! A ticket to bide some time...
Kevin scored a final round interview at Lilium in Munich and decided to get a head start on the move (via Eric's house) - only later did he find out the interview was more than just a formality! The move across was finalized in July 2019 - commence the house hunting! Not so easy leading up to Oktoberfest season, but there we were: excited for a new chapter!
Bavaria delivered. Similarities with Vancouver made for a happy transition - good beer, good mountains. Sarah started learning the Bayrisch way; Kevin started making his mark in sustainable air travel. Soon we were both working and living the good life. We were spoiled for choice on interesting short trips just a stone's throw away, and together with Eric & Jess set up our own running community, covid bubbles and all. Time was flying by, and we started to wonder what the future might bring.
Cologne (the city). Picnic with swans. Up on one knee. Celebrated with a boat cruise, Lindt chocolate factory tour, a wine festival, and Sir Elton John himself. Ask us more about it on the Big Day!
