3 min walk from the resort. Maho Beach is world-famous for watching planes. Beware! Planes fly over you at a ridiculously close distance. Grab a bucket of beers for sale on the beach or head over to the Sunset Cafe where daily landing times are posted and tracked.
25 mins drive from the resort. Lots of beach restaurants and bars along with beach chair rentals. A shopping excursion in the capitals famous Front Street center is the perfect place for tourists to buy souvenirs, jewelry shop, check out local designer clothes, t-shirt shops, as well as visit liquor stores for samples and top it off with some yogurt walking along the beach. This All cruise ships dock here and the city is alive from 10-5 pm so all of the people peddling goods might get a bit annoying, but should be worth it.
22 min drive from the resort (dutch side) Loterie Farm (pronounced ‘lottery’) is a secret hideaway nestled in the hillside of Pic Paradis on French Saint-Martin where you can wine, dine, climb, hike and zip line over the treetop canopy. It is truly an eco-tourism and gastronomical experience you’re not likely to forget or find elsewhere.
20 mins drive from the resort The Soualiga Sky Explorer Take a tranquil ride up two lifts spanning a total of 2,997 ft. as the landscape unfolds below. The Soualiga Sky Explorer chairlifts are comprised of sixty-eight and four-passenger chairs. The Flying Dutchman The main attraction and the steepest zip line in the world. Guests experience the thrill of a lifetime, harnessed in a chair and launched down the mountain on a flight line dropping 1050 feet in elevation over 2800 ft. Top of Sentry Hill Sentry Hill is one of St. Maarten’s highest elevation at 1,125 feet. Walkways and platforms encircle the mountaintop showcasing 360 degrees including vistas of neighboring islands Saba, St. Barts, St. Eustatius and Anguilla.
11 mins drive from the resort, on the way to Philipsburg The six-thousand foot distillery pumps out about 50 different flavours, with crazy combos like Banana Vanilla Cinnamon, Bacon & Maple Syrup and Jalapeno Lime which visitors are free to sample. Incredibly, most of the operation is done by hand, and guests can get an up-close look at the process during one of Topper’s fun distillery tours and even test out the bottling and labelling process.
29 min drive from the resort. A bit further than Loterie Farm. Apparently, a must try beach restaurant that serves French inspired fresh seafood. It's located in the small town of Grand Case and worth the trip.
3 min drive or 15 min walk. Access to the beach is easy (by car) and there is ample of free parking. Do not leave valuables in your car! Mullet Bay is one of the prettiest beaches on Sint Maarten. It is a post card perfect tropical beach: a wide and flat white sand beach with a stand of palm trees and seagrapes on the fringe. Mullet Bay is also a wonderful setting to watch the sun sink into the ocean. On clear days, there is a fantastic view of the neighboring island of Saba. Mullet Bay is rather quiet during the week On weekends locals flock to this beach for having fun, family barbecues, a swim or surfing. There is volleyball, music bands, and sometimes major parties going on over the weekends.
34 min drive from the resort, but close to Grand Case-Espérance Airport if you're planning to island hop via a regional passenger aircraft to Guadeloupe and Saint Barth. Apparently, this is a fun beach bar with good drinks (including frose) with lots of seating options including bean bags in the sand and swing chairs. Located on the east side of the island on Orient Beach.
You can only get to this island via speed boat or ferry. Anguilla, a British Overseas Territory in the Eastern Caribbean, comprises a small main island and several offshore islets. Its beaches range from long sandy stretches like Rendezvous Bay, overlooking neighboring Saint Martin island, to secluded coves reached by boat, such as at Little Bay. Protected areas include Big Spring Cave, known for its prehistoric petroglyphs, and East End Pond, a wildlife conservation site.
You can take an 1h long ferry or very short but expensive flight (see Kakao) to this French island known for high end shopping and anything an everything luxurious. A rental car is necessary to get around and explore this island. Via ferry, you will dock in the port of Gustavia. If you book a rental car in advance, you can request pick up from Gustavia. St. Barth's is known for its stunning beaches. Anse de Grande Saline is a beautiful, quiet beach. The closest ferry from Sonesta to St. Barth's (Gustavia) is via Simpson Bay (https://www.stmartinbookings.com/st-barts-ferry).
This is a tiny island off the coast of St. Martin. Take a 10 minute ferry and snatch a beach chair at 1 of the 2 restaurants on the island. Reserve your chair, bring a beach towel, take a short hike around the island, and lounge the day away with cold drinks and delicious food.
