Edith Diehl started the Brewster Public Library in 1896 with a collection of 500 books at a storefront on Park Street. The present Federal style building donated by Andrew Ferris opened in 1931. The collection now contains over 25,000 items. Mother of the bride is the current Library Board President and encourages you to get a library card!

Looking to take a scenic walk or get a breath of fresh air? This 9-mile Empire State Trail section is an off-road paved trail, welcoming bicyclists and walkers of all abilities. This scenic rail-trail begins in Mahopac, at a trailhead parking area at the intersection of Croton Falls Road (CR34) and Mud Pond Road. The trail follows the Putnam Trailway north from there, winding through wooded areas, past scenic lakes, and through small communities. The trail passes through Carmel, and ends slightly west of the Village of Brewster, at the intersection of Carmel Ave (Route 6) and Putnam Ave. There are several designated parking areas along this 9-mile section. Although there are no services directly on the trail, a variety of local businesses can be accessed short distances off the route.
