Biltmore Estate
Home of the largest private home in the United States, this sprawling property owned by the Vanderbilt family is one of Asheville's most iconic sights to see. Guided and self guided tours are available of the mansions and beautiful grounds, as well as a winery and many miles of trails are available. Only a few minutes from downtown, this is a great option if you are looking for something close by.
Blue Ridge Parkway
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a beautiful scenic drive through the mountains of western North Carolina. Designated as a National Scenic Byway, the parkway has numerous overlooks featuring beautiful views, and hikes of all degrees of difficulty. Popular stops on the parkway near Asheville include Mount Pisgah and the Pisgah Inn, Craggy Gardens, Mount Mitchell (highest peak east of the Mississippi River), Frying Pan lookout tower, and much more.
Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Located about an hour west of Asheville, this park is a must-see if you have a full day! This is America's most visited national park, featuring beautiful mountain views, waterfalls, elk, wild turkeys, and black bears. Please plan for additional time for driving and hiking within the park, and pack a lunch for one of the many beautiful picnic areas.
Waterfalls - Pisgah National Forest and DuPont State Recreational Forest
North Carolina is home to dozens of the most spectacular waterfalls on the East Coast. For a shorter walk, we recommend Looking Glass Falls near Brevard. For a longer hike featuring 3 massive waterfalls, we recommend the Triple Falls trail in Dupont State Forest. Bring your swimsuit!
River Tubing
A fun way to relax and cool off on a hot summer day! For those with limited time, the French Broad River runs through Asheville. We recommend renting from Zen Tubing or Beer City Tubing. For those with more time, tubing is available on the Green River, the Pigeon River, and the Oconaluftee River (Near Great Smoky Mountain National Park)
