Another one of our favorite places in LA! Echo Park Lake is a lovely spot to walk, and it's located near a section of Sunset Boulevard where there are great places to eat, drink, shop and explore! PRO TIP: We love a water craft of any kind...and that includes the swan boats that you can paddle around in while taking in the views of downtown LA!
The LA Zoo is one of our favorite places to spend an afternoon. Our favorite animals are the River Otter, François Langur Leaf Monkey, and all the big cats! The trails are nice to walk and as it's a part of Griffith Park, there are ton of other outdoor options nearby!
This is a Thai Restaurant on Sunset Boulevard that is our favorite restaurant of the moment. Favorite dishes include the crispy rice salad, the grapow crunchwrap supreme, pad thai and garlic green beans. It's known for being spicy, but it's so worth it!
Two words: Taco Tuesday! This sports bar is *literally* on our street, so if you go here, tell us! Maybe we're home!
This cafe has incredible coffee, great pastries and a cart of books that are free to read while you're there (and can be rented/bought if you want to take them away!) Not only is it walking distance to our apartment, but it's one of our favorite spots in the neighborhood and it was one of the locations of our engagement photo shoot! PRO TIP - at night, it turns into a bar called Tenets of the Trees!
Porto's is an iconic Cuban bakery with locations all over LA, with an extensive pastry and sandwich menu that we love. It's also where our wedding cake is from!
Whenever somebody comes to visit us in LA, there's a good chance we end up at Alcove for breakfast, lunch, drinks or dinner! It's a solid neighborhood staple all day, every day.
This is a great hike that we recommend if you're into this sort of thing! It goes all the way up to the Hollywood Sign if you feel up to the full 6.5 miles...but there are plenty of great viewpoints to stop at on the way up and you can turn around any time you like!
Griffith Observatory is one of our favorite LA landmarks. We usually go multiple times per year, and we can even hike there from our apartment! In addition to the gorgeous views spanning the hills to the ocean, the observatory has a science center underneath that has free entry. It houses a really cool set of exhibits including a Tesla coil, a Foucoult pendulum, and the Solar System. It's also a huge piece of LA film history - scenes from Rebel Without A Cause were filmed here, as well as the epic dance scene from La La Land!
This is where we're headed after the wedding reception for the after party, but you can take a visit here beforehand if you'd like to meet the bartender and grease the wheels! Be prepared, it's cash only!
If you want a theme park experience without heading down to Disneyland, Universal's the one! We love Universal because it's more accessible, more affordable, shorter lines and more bars! If you're a Harry Potter fan like we are....don't miss it!
