That's right -- we love each other so much that we're getting married twice! This weekend will feature two distinct ceremonies: a secular vows exchange on Saturday and a Jewish ketubah signing on Sunday. Both ceremonies are equally important to us and celebrate our uniqueness as a couple as well as our respect for Jewish tradition and our spiritual upbringings. The ceremonies will complement each other, so you will see certain elements -- like a chuppah and wedding rings -- being used for both events. On Saturday, expect a modern wedding ceremony and reception (e.g. wedding dress, cake, toasts, the electric slide). On Sunday, there will be a less formal traditional religious ceremony (e.g. brunch buffet, casual dress), where we will sign the Jewish wedding contract and marriage license. Our marriage license will be dated Sunday April 14th. You are encouraged to attend both events!
If your invitation includes your children, then they are invited. We will provide babysitting services during the Saturday festivities that will be run by three local teachers. You can drop off/pick up your kids in the game room downstairs from the ballroom anytime Saturday evening from 4:45pm-10:30pm for pizza and fun activities. Kids meals/high chairs are available for youngsters who want to stay for the party; please note your needs in the RSVP. (Bonus points for dressing your babies in bowties and tutus).
Unless your invitation was specifically addressed to you and your partner, we ask that you not bring a date. Our guest list cannot stretch further and every single seat is accounted for.
Yes, complimentary valet parking is available at Water's Edge.
Our venue holds a lot of meaning for Jeremy's family. Before opening in 1986 as Water's Edge Resort and Spa, the hotel belonged to Bill Hahn, a friend of Jeremy's paternal grandfather, Alfred Rosenweig. Jeremy's grandparents Ruth and Alfred honeymooned at Bill Hahn's hotel in 1944, and Jeremy's father Marc worked at there for several summers during high school. Glad you asked! The goal of our wedding weekend is to celebrate family, so we have infused family heirlooms and traditions into many parts of the weekend. Engagement ring: Sam's ring is made of inherited stones from Jeremy's paternal grandmother Ruth, Sam's maternal grandmother Phyllis, and Sam's mom Susan. Veil: Sam's veil was made from her mother's wedding dress. The veil was worn by Sam's sister, Arielle, at her wedding in August 2013. Groom glass cover: We will be breaking the glass in a bag that held cards at the wedding of Jeremy's parents, Lila and Marc. Chuppah: The chuppah symbolizes building a new home together with the support of our friends and family. Sam’s college friend, Annina, knitted the canopy and Jeremy designed the poles. Officiants: Robert Brande is a childhood friend of Jeremy's, Nathaniel Berman is Sam's first cousin, and Rabbi Stuart Berman is Sam's uncle. Uncle Stuart officiated the wedding of Sam's parents, Susan and Rob, in 1988!
Absolutely! You may have noticed that our wedding website (thatsthepoweroflove.com) comes from the introduction song of "Back to the Future," the movie that is responsible for our meeting. Be on the lookout for musical cues and other details related to the movie throughout the wedding! Actor Christopher Lloyd (Doc Brown from BTTF) is from Connecticut and has an open invitation to our wedding, but sadly has not RSVPed.
We are honoring the memory of Robert Schilit, Sam's father, who passed away in 2012. Sam's sister Arielle will take his place in walking Sam down the aisle on Saturday. Our "Beatles Brunch" theme on Sunday plays homage to Rob's love for oldies music. He used to wake up Sam and Arielle every morning to "Good Morning, Good Morning," so this will be the first song played at Sunday brunch. We will honor other family members during the sheva brachot (seven wedding blessings) at our ceremony on Sunday. We remember our grandparents Albert, Eleanore, Alfred, Ruth, Henry, Phyllis, Irving and Ethel; our cousins Jimmy, Susan, Doreen, Andrea, and Kenny; and Sam's college friend Alex.
Honeydew, but we canteloupe tonight.
