Block Island (“officially the Town of New Shoreham”) is located in the Atlantic Ocean about 13 miles off the coast of Rhode Island. Thousands of years ago, a glacier left rolling hills and ponds behind, forming what is now known as Block Island. The Narragansett Indians were the first inhabitants of Block Island as evidenced by remains that date back thousands of years. Their name for the island was “Manisses” which translates to “Island of the Little God.” Check out this recent Vogue article on the Island! https://www.vogue.com/slideshow/travel-guide-block-island-where-to-stay-eat-shop
Our wedding is scheduled on Friday, September 16th, 2022 so we recommend arriving on Thursday, September 15th, 2022. Considering there are finite options on getting to the island, we recommend planning far in advance as some ferries will operate on a limited schedule.
Whether you are traveling by air or land, you will need to secure direct travel to the island. There are many ways of getting to/from the island depending on where you are coming from that include 5 ferry options (some with vehicle options) and 2 flight options that run regularly to/from the island. Please plan in advance to be sure you secure your travel to the island. Check the Travel tab for more details!
Short answer is no. There are car ferry's that can, in fact, bring your car over but Block Island is fairly small and easy to explore without a car. There are bike and moped rentals (I recommend mopeds for the best experience as you can see the entire island in a day!) as well as taxis/ride-shares, too. If you want to leave a car on the mainland, there are public parking lots at New London and Point Judith Ferry's for $5-$15 per day.
Cocktail Attire or Semi-Formal A shawl or light coat may be needed as we finish the night outdoors around a fire pit.
Our ceremony will be held indoors at Saint Andrews Church on Block Island. The reception and dinner will be indoors, however, our venue opens up to the beachfront where we will end the evening outdoors around a fire pit and Tiki hut areas.
September on Block Island is gorgeous! Sometimes it has characteristics like San Francisco. Please keep in mind that during the day, it can be sunny in the mid 70's and then drop into low 50's at night. We are also a small Island in the sea and the wind can whip up at times!
Yes! We are registered through Zola and you can find it by clicking on the Registry tab above.
Bring some cash! The island can feel a little "old school" at times. You might need cash for taxis, tipping, etc.
