We are so excited to be getting married and for you to join us on Block Island (New Shoreham, Rhode Island)! It is one of our favorite places in the world having visited so many times during the Summer and Fall months over the years. We look forward to you tucking away your phone to truly experience 'island living,' and to celebrate our wedding in one of the most special places to us! While we've been together for the better part of a decade, our story is only just beginning...
We originally met in Stamford, Connecticut at an "Alive at Five" concert series where we were introduced by her sister and my colleague at the time, Catherine. I offered to buy us some drinks and from that moment on, I became infatuated with Sarah. I told Catherine the following day at work that I had "met my wife." At the time it seemed silly, but Sarah never left my thoughts from that day forward.
Sarah had recently celebrated a birthday and after seeing the notification a couple days later on Facebook, I messaged her with a belated happy birthday message. To my surprise, she responded right away, so I had casually suggested that we should get together to meet up. So, what better time than later that afternoon?! We each hopped on the train and met up at Grand Central Station before making our way to Eataly in NYC. We then taxi'd over to walk the Highline and then later walked the Seaport (in retrospect this wasn't the best logistical plan going East-West-East-West) and found a quaint place for some food. It was oysters and shrimp cocktail, which Sarah had never really dabbled in before, combined with grilled cheese - which is her favorite! We look back and laugh at how we each wanted to make each other happy and comfortable together - and it so happens to be our first ever compromise!
Some of our most cherished times have been spent on Long Island going to some amazing restaurants and wineries. We got an AirBnB for the weekend and did a few visits to our favorite spots. It was in the middle of the Fall and as the sun was beginning to set, I suggested we go back and pick up our dog, Chelsea, for a walk on the beach. My parents got married on a beach and it meant a lot to me to include family sentiment in what was the biggest moment of my life to date. The day I proposed was October 23rd, which is Sarah's parent's anniversary - Gail and Ralph are now celebrating 56 years of marriage - and my parents, Astra and Bob, are going 38 years strong! Although I gave some hints to Sarah - like making sure her nails were done, and had some nice outfits for an otherwise casual weekend - she was taken by surprise and I don't think she really knew until I got down on one knee. As expected, I MELTED... I was extremely emotional and could barely get the words out, but when I did... she said YES!! I was able to video everything as Chelsea was tangling her leash around us. Once she saw the ring, she did a double take and her eyes lit up and was surprised by it all. It was hands down the best moment that we've together and we can't wait to creating many more!!
