Groom
Born in Pittsburgh, PA and a graduate of U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Robert is a registered civil engineer and a retired Coast Guard Reserve Officer. He is currently attending Kansas State University's graduate program in civil engineering. He is researching how to generate biogas, a renewable energy source, from food processing waste. Robert 's son is Nick Weil of Santa Rosa, California. Nick is an electrical engineer and drummer. Nick and Nikki are the proud parents of Emerson Walker Weil (3 years old) and Mabellene Caprice Weil (11 months). Robert's daughter is Erika Weil, currently residing in New York, New York. Erika is a vocalist, music educator and computer coder. Erika is engaged to be married to Chris Eggemeyer of Chicago, Illinois later in 2018.
Bride
Wanphen is from Thailand. She was much influenced by her uncle and aunt, who imparted principles of hope, learning and forgiveness. Hope led her to higher education, and she earned bachelor’s and master's degrees in biotechnology, the only one in her family to attain this level of education. After this, she researched in Kasetsart University's starch unit, worked in industry, and had her own business. She has two children, Tonhom (10) and Platoo (6). In 2014, she started the PhD program at Kasetsart University, working with Dr. Klanarong Sriroth, her mentor. In 2017, she met Dr. Yong Shi who was in Bangkok for a conference. She decided to come to Kansas State University as a visiting scholar in Dr. Shi's lab. She will complete her research in 2018, and return to Thailand with Robert.
