Getting to Bologna

Passport Information
Prior to traveling to Italy, please make sure that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended travel date. For example, since you are traveling to Italy for our wedding in September 2025, your passport needs to be valid (not expire) until April 2026.

Italy Travel Requirement
A new travel requirement is beginning in 2025. You must have an ETIAS to travel to 27 European Countries including Italy. You must apply and be accepted prior to checking into your departure flight out of the USA. We recommend doing this very easy and quick application ASAP. Flight
Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport
The closest airport to our venue is BLQ (Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport). The Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport is very small and there are limited flights, so we recommend booking your flights well in advance. From the airport, you can Uber, taxi, or rent a car to arrive at your accommodations. The airport is about a 25 minute drive from Palazzo di Varignana. Alternatively, you could fly into FLR (Amerigo Vespucci Airport) or MXP (Milan Malpensa Airport "Silvio Berlusconi") and take the train to Bologna (~35 minute train from Florence and ~1 hour train from Milan) or rent a car (~2 hour drive from Florence). If you choose to do this, we recommend also booking your train or rental car in advance. If you are going to rent a car, please make sure to also get your international driver's license (unlike Riley in October 2024, and we were unable to get a rental car)!
Train
Bologna Centrale
If you are flying into another Italian airport other than the Bologna airport, we recommend taking the train to Bologna Centrale. Bologna Centrale is a 25 minute car ride from Palazzo di Varignana. It is easy to get a taxi or Uber from the train station to take you to your destination. If you are staying at Palazzo di Varignana, you may even call the front desk to assist you with picking you up or ordering a taxi.

Varignana Palace Resort & Spa
Not only is Palazzo di Varignana the location of our venue and welcome pool party, it is also a beautiful hotel with so many fun things to do on site. We stayed at the venue ahead of time just to try out all of the activities and make sure the beds were comfy! Palazzo di Varignana is a farm to table, that has plenty of restaurants on site, a driving range to golf, pools, a spa that every guest can access every day, as well as wine and olive oil tasting! We highly recommend that you stay at least 2 nights so you are able to experience everything Palazzo di Varignana has to offer! Because we love this venue so much, we also have a room block which 4 tiers of rooms available. Prior to March 1st, please email our event planner, Tatjana at eventiprivati@palazzodivarignana.com and let her know you are interested in booking a room with our room block pricing. During the week, Tatjana responds to emails within 24 hours and will assist you with booking a room of your preference! After March 1st, our room block pricing ends.
