Tips for Travel and Accommodations

Rochester is a driving city. You can get to most places within 15-20 minutes, but if you do not have a car, here are some options: RENTALS: From the Rochester Airport or local dealers, car rentals are plentiful here! Rent in advance for an easier trip. CABS: Local businesses, Lyft, and Uber, exist. But--New Yorkers!--be mindful that Rochester is smaller than NYC, and therefore availability and pricing will be proportionate. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: Exists, but not recommended due to its egregious limitations. WHERE TO STAY: BLOCKED HOTEL ROOMS: Highly recommended and conveniently located, these rooms are limited, so book your soon! ALTERNATIVES: Rochester has a broad variety of hotels, motels, Airbnbs, Vrbos---you name it, they got it. Wanna stay in a yurt? Richard and Belkis stayed in a yurt once. See what you find.

That date and time above is the most hilariously inconvenient suggestion if you take this option. Richard has enjoyed--and endured--riding on various buses to Rochester from NYC and back. Megabus is the most comfortable, Greyhound is cheapest, and OurBus has excellent customer service. Just be mindful of departure and arrival times, which can get gruesome, as well as seat mates!

Train

Amtrak

Richard has taken the Amtrak train to and from NYC and Rochester countless times. You too can enjoy this long yet easy ride through the natural beauty of New York State if your area is connected.

Flight

The airport is convenient to get in and out of, and only a 10-15 minute drive to the blocked hotels listed below. If you have some time before or after your flight check out the "Taste of Rochester" food court and try some of our local delicacies, as well as a small sample of precious toys courtesy of the Rochester Museum of Play! Trivia: Named after Rochester's most famous resident, the master orator and abolitionist, Frederick Douglass!
