We met on Bumble (a dating app) in June of 2021. Through fashion, family, and careers, we talked our way into our first dinner date where every item was horrible. And yet, we walked through a light drizzle afterward and sat on a moonkissed bench, talking for hours. Through the autumn of 2021, we explored the best of NYC together: art shows of the Obama portraits and Van Gogh, biking around Governor's Island, countless delicious meals, and far more. This time together compelled Belkis to feel safe with Richard, and Richard to call Belkis just to hear her voice. By Christmas, Richard attempted to learn Ga and told Belkis he loved her in a poem written with her native tongue. She doesn't read Ga. Nevertheless! We remained committed to each other, tested during a month with Belkis in Turkey for work. Richard thought a Winter Wonderland trip to the Hudson Valley would do Belkis good upon her return to the states. Beautiful snow! Silent nights! Cozy fires! Her response to the trip was that of an African girl raised in the sun in a freezing hell. Whoopsie! Notwithstanding that flop, we remained smitten with each other. A year after we first started talking, Richard asked Belkis to move to the Bronx and helped her with Beriqisu tasks. Belkis accepted reluctantly (because the Bronx is no Harlem!) and helped with grading papers. In 2022, we met each other's families and were immediately accepted into both. In autumn, Richard used Belkis's favorite film, "Breakfast at Tiffany's," to inspire his proposal. She said Yes! (If you weren't sure yet.) We have been stressed about planning the wedding ever since. The day of will be the happiest of our lives because our love will be solidified in the eyes of God--and because that day means no more wedding planning.
