In Maine lies one of America's most underrated national parks: Acadia. Its rocky coast and evergreen pines are only part of the reason Lauren and Reese fell in love with it. It also has some of the richest history, best lighthouses, and incredible hiking trails. (Honorable mention is all of the blueberry flavored things there, like their many blueberry beers.) Most importantly, it's the first national park they visited together! We want you all to be able to experience somewhere you might not have ever considered, as the beauty of Maine is one of the world's best kept secrets.
While we both went to Lexington, we didn't cross paths until 2020, when Reese was home from New York because of the pandemic. Lauren commented on one of Reese's Instagram posts saying "You're so pretty!" so Reese reached out because she assumed Lauren was flirting -- Lauren claims to this day that she wasn't, but whatever. We began to learn more about one another, and the rest is history.
Our first proposal was in 2020, when we first started dating. Reese knew Lauren was the one a little too early on, and joked about proposing with a ring pop. She went all around Mansfield trying to find the candy, and finally found one and brought it to Lauren for our first date. Fast forward 3 years later, Reese begins to plan their Glacier National Park trip with the entire intention of proposing to Lauren with our friends Abby and Evan. Reese has been designing the ring almost a year in advance, keeps the secret for 6 months (that's so long for her), and is doing so well. Then, we begin to talk about what we'd want for our wedding. We talk about the possibility of a national park wedding, and Lauren suggests Glacier, so Reese naturally says, "Well we can't get engaged AND married at Glacier." ... Then Reese cried for a week but Lauren thought it was kind of funny because Reese can't keep a secret to save her life. Good quality to have in a wife, at least. The real story of our engagement was like a fairytale. At the Aster Park Overlook trail in Glacier National Park, we found a picturesque open field and saw a moose. Reese knew this was the moment, with no one around but a moose and our friends to capture the moment. (Abby and Evan, thank you for all you did, from carrying the rings to photographing and videoing everything.) Reese tried to hide the ring box inside her sleeve but was not slick whatsoever. She got down on knee and before she could even ask, Lauren said "I KNEW IT!" So, a moose watched us propose, and Lauren surprised Reese with a ring, which she had absolutely no idea it was happening. We cried, we laughed, we finished our hike and saw two more moose. A perfect day.
