George's Pizza & Restaurant
Family-owned Greek pizza and restaurant. Check out their meatball grinder, plain cheese pizza, or antipasto salad with Parmesan peppercorn dressing! Rebecca’s family has been frequenting this amazing spot for many years, back to when her mom was young! Nick has become a huge fan of their Greek style pizza as well! Sunday-Thursday: 1100-0100 (Kitchen closes at 2200) Friday & Saturday: 1100-0200 (Kitchen closes at 2300)
The Mark Twain House & Museum
Now a museum, this was once the home of famous author, Mark Twain, and his family from 1874 to 1891. Twain wrote some of his most memorable works here, including Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court. Open 7 days a week from 0930-1730, the last tour starts at 1615. Purchase tickets online for other a general house tour or living history tour. Please note tickets often sell out ahead of time.
UConn Dairy Bar and Horsebarn Hill
How could we have a Connecticut wedding without mentioning the amazing UConn dairy bar! Check out Horsebarn Hill to see some horses, cows, and get a beautiful stroll in! Open 7 days a week from 1100-2000
Hill-Stead Museum
Beautiful historic Colonial Revival building and impressionist art museum, including Mary Cassatt, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Édouard Manet, Claude Monet, and James McNeill Whistler. Grounds and hiking trails are free to the public; dogs are welcome, but must remain on leash at all times. Trash receptacles are scattered throughout the property. Please check their website for full upcoming events and installations, and to purchase tickets for admission to the museum. The museum is open Wednesday-Sunday from 1000-1600 The grounds are open daily from 0730-1700
Heublein Tower
A moderate hike through Talcott Mountain State Park leading to a 165-foot tower with panoramic views of the Farmington River Valley. The trail is open daily from 0800-sunset. The tower is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 1000-1600.
University of Connecticut
A beautiful campus where Nick and Rebecca fell in love! Stroll the campus, check out downtown Storrs Center, the campus bookstore, and Horsebarn Hill. Rebecca and Nick remain connected to campus as Rebecca runs the sports engagement and other events for UConn Alumni in Washington, D.C.
West Hartford Center and Blue Back Square
Shopping, restaurants, coffee, and strolls. Enjoy a wide array of options where Rebecca and her family have spent a lot of their time as Mr. Kall worked at the fire station located on Brace Road. Rebecca and Nick would often get drinks and food here, especially when Nick was completing his business internship in the center. While technically different, the Center and Blueback Square are within walking distance of each other and have plenty of options for all!
Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana
Serving Original New Haven style pizza for ONE HUNDRED years! Get a slice of a classic New Haven style “ah-beetz” slice at Pepe’s, stroll Wooster Street, or check out the Connecticut Pizza Trail to get in on the action of debating which classic pizza is the best in the state. We recommend the original tomato pie with mozzarella (the original tomato will be without cheese!). After checking out out Pepe’s, make sure you get some Italian ice and some cookies from Libby’s. (Red raspberry in a squeeze cup is Rebecca’s favorite) There’s a reason Connecticut is known as the Pizza Capital of the U.S.! Open daily from 1100-2200 Note that there may be a large wait for all pizzerias on Wooster Street and most do not accept reservations, however, order ahead is often available.
Buell's Orchard
A five generation Connecticut family who have been farming in Eastford since 1889! Late summer boasts blueberries and peaches in perfect ripeness. Nick and his family have been enjoying locally grown fruits, vegetables, and treats from this orchard for many years! Monday 0800-1900 Tuesday-Friday 0800-1700 Saturday 0800-1500
Back East Brewery & Kitchen
Opened in 2012 with a variety of delicious beers enjoyed by both Nick and Rebecca’s families for years. Nick and Rebecca have enjoyed Back East brews since the brewery was approximately 1/4 the size it is now. Great selection of beers and foods. Wintonbury Hills Golf Course
Pete Dye’s first design in New England. 6,711-yard, par 70 layout of combination open-links and traditional tree-lined holes. Nick has played this course many times throughout his 25 year golf career! Walking and carts are available with practice facility and restaurant. Lowest prices available online; walk up and phone reservations are subject higher prices.
Farmington Canal Heritage Trail
The Farmington Canal Heritage Trail (FCHT) is a paved multi-use path going from New Haven to the Massachusetts border. Westfarms Mall
Central Connecticut’s premier shopping and dining destination featuring 140+ stores and restaurants. A frequent spot for Rebecca as it’s quite close to where she grew up. Westfarms has a great selection of stores and food options. Nearby is Corbin’s Corner Shopping Center and West Farm Shopping Center, which also have a great number of shops should you wish to peruse or just in case you forgot something!
Tree House Brewing Company
Your home away from home. Tree House Brewing Company, brewers of Julius and pioneers of hazy IPA, produces world-renowned beer in Charlton, Massachusetts. Rebecca and Nick have been frequenting the original Charlton location for over 10 years and it has become one of their favorite locations. Be sure to try one of their flagship beers - Julius, Haze, or Green! For those traveling from northern New England or Logan Airport, this is a great stop on your way to Connecticut. Beer, cocktails, and coffee. Food trucks are often available as well.
