Thursday, March 12, Iowa State's Monte Morris scored a buzzer beater as time expired to win against Texas. Jordan watched the game in Des Moines where he lived and after the exciting win, him and his friends decided to go to Kansas City where the Big 12 Basketball Tournament was taking place. Two days later, Rachel was going to judge a forensics tournament at her alma mater high school. She happened to have an Iowa State t-shirt she got for free at a conference in college and decided to wear it just to make the KU fans she would see mad. They were playing each other in the championship game that night. She had plans that evening to go to Power & Light with a friend that wanted to celebrate Pi Day. They showed up to P&L in cute dresses and found themselves in a sea of red. Iowa State had just beat KU in the final seconds of the championship game across the street at Sprint Center. They were taking in the sights and sounds of all the ISU fans when one of them named John came up to them. After chatting with them for awhile he asked if he could hang out with them. They said sure and soon the three of them made it to Pizza Bar. Rachel was not on everyone else's level and needed a drink. She stood by the bar and all the sudden a guy appeared before her. John said, "This is my roommate, Jordan." Rachel said hello and made small talk. It wasn't long until Jordan started dancing with her and twirling her around! Her friend and John started to hit it off, so Rachel stuck around Jordan for the rest of the night. He didn't leave her all night. They got to know each other on the balcony of Shark Bar where Rachel learned Jordan lived in Des Moines. She thought she wouldn't see him again even when he asked when he could visit. They became Facebook friends, followed each other on Twitter, and exchanged numbers. The next day he texted her.
They kept in touch and Jordan visited Rachel like he said he would on July 31. Him and his roommates came to Kansas City for the weekend and they all hung out with Rachel's friends and went on KC adventures. In September, Rachel and her roommate, Anna, went to Des Moines to visit them. The next month, Jordan was texting Rachel while at work about Of Monsters and Men and how they were playing in concert in Kansas City that Friday and that he really wanted to see them. He spontaneously bought tickets for the two of them and came down to Kansas City for one night. They went on their first date. They went to dinner and the concert and then stayed up late into the night talking for hours getting to know each other. Rachel came to Des Moines to visit Jordan and they went on a date visiting local spots downtown and Jordan asked her to be his girlfriend on November 7, 2015. Jordan and Rachel started their relationship long distance and continued to date between two cities for nine months until Jordan moved to Kansas City where they still live in an apartment downtown Kansas City, MO.
Rachel and Jordan had the Friday off and decided to take a trip to Weston, MO for the day and stay the night in the cute hotel on their main street. It was an amazing day of filled with a bunch of their favorite things that included wine, BBQ, ice cream, beer, a beautiful sunset, and more. (Rachel was also excited because it was the day Taylor Swift's album came out so they listened to it as they drove to Weston and around town!) Rachel was so happy and loved the day and everything about it. A couple hours later, they were walking to the hotel when Jordan said, "let's go check out the park." They walked over to it and right when they stopped in their tracks, Jordan got down on his knee and asked, "Will you marry me?" Rachel was shocked and had no idea it was happening and kept asking, "FOR REAL?! Right here?! Right now?! What?!" and of course said, "YES!" Then it settled in and she realized what just happened and started crying. Rachel couldn't stop looking at her ring and still hasn't. They have been wedding planning ever since.
