Tucked away inside the Somerset Hills Hotel (and just down the street from the Marriott), this bar is known as one of the top beer bars in New Jersey. Their food is standard bar fare, and they usually have sports on the TVs. They're known to have occasional live music, too. The Tap Room is likely going to be our afterparty spot if we want to continue celebrating after the wedding, as it's open until 2:00 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. (Many places in the area do close on the earlier side.)
This cute Italian bistro is where we celebrated our one-year anniversary, and it's one of our favorite spots in the area. Fresh pasta, great service, BYOB, amazing desserts--who could ask for anything more!
This tiny cafe is where we had our first date. We sat there for hours and then walked along Main Street. Downtown Somerville is adorable, and we highly recommend exploring if you have time. The Dragonfly has great hot beverages, as well as paninis and salads at lunchtime, and often has live music.
This place is known for its amazing breakfast and brunch. It's very small, though, and gets crowded fast, so get there early!
The Washington House is a great spot for good food and drink. There is a bar area where you can sit and hang out and order food, as well as a more formal sit-down dining room. The food and service are on point.
It might be winter, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't indulge in a little homemade ice cream! It's delicious!
If you like pizza, this is the place for you! They also have a full Italian menu, as well as both a casual cafe and a more formal dining room.
This place is great for your morning bagel or breakfast sandwich, as well as lunch items. It's also super close to the hotel!
If you like Chinese, this place is the closest and best in the area. They offer both dine-in and takeout. The service is a bit slow when dining in, though, so if you're in a hurry, you might not want to partake.
Whether you like sashimi, handrolls, tempura, or teriyaki, this Japanese joint has something for everyone. The food is fresh and the service is good.
If you like hibachi and aren't interested in a chain restaurant, this is the one to check out. We go here frequently with friends, and it's even BYOB!
For those of you who prefer to stick with what you know, don't worry, there is a Panera very close to the hotel. Both Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts are also nearby, among others.
If you enjoy video games, check this spot out. They have many classic arcade games, skeeball, air hockey, and more, including every video game console you can probably think of. They charge by the hour, so you can play as many times and as many games as you want, which comes in handy if you tend to die over and over again when playing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, as some of us do. Plus, on Friday and Saturday nights, it's adults only after 9:00 p.m. and becomes BYO! (Though you all have somewhere to be Saturday night, so don't even think about it!)
This popular bowling chain also offers an arcade, billiards, laser tag, bocce, and more. Game on!
If you feel like catching a movie, give the AMC Dine-In a try. It's located in the Bridgewater Commons mall, as well, which has a wide variety of shops and restaurants.
This is where to go if you want to do some shopping or just walk around somewhere indoors. There are many restaurants within in the mall, as well as an outpost of sorts just down the road, where you can find Shake Shack, Yong Kang Street Dumplings (super tasty if you like dim sum or sushi!), Starbucks, Crate and Barrel, Ann Taylor, and more.
While we aren't crazy close to the city, it's not far, either. You can easily hop a train from the Summit NJ Transit station and be there in 30-60 mins. It's also about an hour's drive if that's your preference, but we recommend the train to avoid traffic, as well as the hassle of parking. If you decide to go into the city at all and would like specific recommendations, please e-mail us at poieszlubywedding@gmail.com, and we'd be glad to help you plan your time there.
