Silverton, CO (not to be confused with Silverthorne) is perched in a lofty valley at 9,318 feet in the southern San Juan Mountains, 6-7 hours from Denver by car. Silverton began as a mining town, but unlike many of its neighbors it has not been polished and manicured into a luxury destination. Instead, it retains the wild, wooly and independent energy of a remote mountain town where snowfall is measured in feet and whiskey is served neat. The fact that the rough-and-tumble spirit has not been scrubbed away makes Silverton all the more charming, authentic, and adventurous. It's not easy to get to, and can even feel like a step back in time, but we are guaranteeing you a good time!
Silverton is at 9,318 feet and Eureka Lodge is closer to 10,000 feet - that is some serious elevation! First off, altitude sickness is no joke and can strike anyone. DRINK WATER (and we mean gallons of it). In fact, if you are coming in from out of state we recommend increasing your H2O intake the week before. Keep in mind that alcohol hits you harder at elevation, the sun can feel super intense (use lots of sunscreen!), and wear layers as temperatures can fluctuate. Symptoms of Altitude Sickness: headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, shortness of breath For more information on symptoms, prevention, treatment, etc. visit this article: https://www.health.harvard.edu/a_to_z/altitude-sickness-a-to-z
The Welcome Party and Wedding Ceremony & Reception will all be outdoors and you'll be walking on dirt roads and gravel. There is an indoor contingency plan for inclement weather. We recommend wearing layers, comfortable shoes, and bringing a jacket!
Welcome Party: Mountain Chic What is mountain chic attire? To dress appropriately for the mountain climate while still looking sleek. For guys, think denim and boots with a nice button-up. Add a bolo tie if you’re feeling fancy! For the ladies, consider a sundress with comfortable shoes. Tip: opt for block heels, flats, or boots instead of pointy heels and it’s never a bad idea to pack a jacket for the cooler summer nights! Wedding Ceremony & Reception: Mountain Cocktail What is mountain cocktail attire? To dress appropriately for the mountain climate while still looking elegant. For guys, think nice dress shirt and suit pants with ties and jackets being optional. For the ladies, consider a cocktail dress of some sort that can vary in length.
