(This is the airport we are flying in/out of) DEL BAJIO (BJX)- LEON/GUANAJUATO AIRPORT The drive from BJX to San Miguel de Allende is ~1.5 - 2 hours. MEXICO CITY (MEX) AIRPORT The drive from MEX to San Miguel del Allende is ~3.5 hours. From the airport, you can take a taxi, private car or group shuttle. Group shuttles will be the most economical and safest way to travel. Protip: You can coordinate with other guests to take the same shuttle.

Explained: Getting through customs

Please be aware your US passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of entry into Mexico. -At some point in your flight, you will receive an Immigration Form and Customs Declaration Form to fill out. Make sure you also keep your baggage ticket as you may need it to claim your bags. -After landing, head to the immigration counter. Present your passport and the filled out immigration form for them to stamp. Save the immigration form as you will need it to exit the country. -Next, proceed to baggage claim for your luggage. -Last, visit customs. Here, you will need your filled out Customs Declaration Form. Mexico has a "Red Light - Green Light" system for customs. If you have put "Nothing to declare" on this form, you will be asked to push a button. If the light is green, you can exit without inspection; if the light is red, you will be subject to inspection. This is a random system, with luck you get the green light. But if you get the red light; it's a quick baggage search for security.

Traveler protips: 1. Mexico tax is currently at 16%. Hotels show a price either include or excluding the tax, read the descriptions. 2. A/C is not always a given (sometimes it's just fans), double check if you absolutely need A/C. 3. Contact the hotel if you prefer a specific floor (smaller hotels will likely not have elevators). 4. Need WiFi? Consider what other guest reviews have said about the signal. 5. May is a popular month, don't wait too long to book. Most places have generous cancellation policies (e.g., reserve now and have until May to cancel). 6. Smaller boutique hotels may not have staff after hours. Try to set your arrival during the day. Contact the hotel (and confirm with them) if you are arriving at an odd hour.
