Travel Note
We realize that over the years we have made friends with people who live all over the country and we know it is a big ask for people to travel to Sun Valley, a place so near and dear to our hearts. We also know that many of you have never been to Idaho, and that it may feel a bit daunting when it comes to getting there. And while we really want each of you to come celebrate with us, we don't want you to pay an arm and a leg. With that in mind, we have researched both the fastest and most cost-efficient travel for most major cities. If you don't see your city listed, we'd suggest starting with looking at flights to Sun Valley's closest airport (see below Friedman Memorial Airport) and then comparing that to flying to SLC or Boise and then driving to Sun Valley. Car rental is pretty inexpensive out west if you are renting from the airport.
Shuttle
August 8, 2021 4:30 pm - 12:00 am
A shuttle service will be running to and from Trail Creek to get you to the ceremony and back the night of the wedding. Please use it! We do not have enough space for everyone to drive and ride share in the area is very limited. Shuttles will be picking up at two points: the Sun Valley Lodge, and the Best Western Kentwood Lodge (convenient for anyone staying downtown). PICK UP TIME IS 4:30PM FOR CEREMONY. At night, shuttles will start running at 9:30pm, and continue until festivities end!
Travel Note
Salt Lake City Friends: it's about a 4.5 hour car ride from SLC to SV. Salt Lake City also has daily flights on Delta directly going from Salt Lake International Airport to Hailey, ID which take about a half hour. It's obviously more economical (and safer with covid) to drive! Boise locals: it's about a 2 and a half hour drive to Sun Valley, which is what we would recommend. Denver friends: flying to SLC and then driving is cheaper, but comes with a significant increase in travel time. You can book to SUN on Delta from Denver; however, flights can be pricey so we recommend setting a price drop alert. Seattle: You can book directly on Alaska Airlines to Sun Valley for the most seamless travel. While more expensive, this would save you a lot of time. Alternatively, you could fly into Boise from Seattle and drive to Sun Valley in under 3 hours.
Travel Note
East Coast guests: you can book on most major airlines from NYC/Philly/DC to Sun Valley (Hailey Airport) which is convenient (note there will always be a layover in SLC) . Unfortunately these flights can be costly. For the most economical travel, we suggest flying into SLC and then driving. It only adds <2 hours onto total travel time and would save a hefty sum. Chicagoans: flights booked from Midway or O'Hare to Sun Valley (with a SLC layover) are a bit cheaper than those on the East Coast. However, who knows what they will be in August. Again, it may be cheaper to fly to SLC and then rent a car to make the drive up to Idaho.
Travel Note
Angelenos: you are the only group for which we would say fly direct! You can get a direct flight on Delta, Alaska, or United from LAX to SUN. SF: You can fly direct to Sun Valley on United. However there seemed to be a wide variety of pricing for these flights, so it might be advisable to set a price drop alert. San Diego: Flights from SAN to SLC are generally reasonably priced. From there you can rent a car in SLC and drive to Sun Valley.
Travel Note
If you are flying directly into Sun Valley (Hailey Airport), we have planned the weekend so that you do not need to rent a car unless you want to. Check out the link below for local bus shuttles to and from the airport. Several hotels also offer shuttle service. Sun Valley is very compact, and nearly everything is walking distance. Additionally, we will have shuttles running from major drop-off points on the night of the wedding so no one will be on the road. However, if you are planning on coming into town a bit early and/or staying late and want to check out some of the incredible hiking or fly fishing nearby, we recommend you rent a car to fully take advantage of the area. At the Friedman Memorial Airport you can rent through Hertz, Enterprise, and Avis.
