If you’ve ever seen The Office sitcom, just picture Dwight and Angela as the story progresses… Nina and Max met at Design Workshop in Aspen, Colorado. For Nina, Aspen held many fond memories, having traveled there as a kid. For Max, Aspen was uncharted territory, where he spent about a year in quiet contemplation before Nina entered his life. Max worked as a landscape designer when Nina joined the firm as office manager—a position that placed her at the front of the office, just before the restrooms (this is relevant…). One of their earliest interactions was at a work happy hour at a local brewery, where Nina and Max quickly realized how much their interests and life experiences aligned. It was rare to meet someone else who had also lived in Singapore for any period of time. For some time after that, Nina and Max would exchange glances and go out of their way to talk at work—without being too obvious about their intentions. Just wanting to talk to her, Max saw a significant uptick in restroom visits—so much so that Nina may have been concerned for his well-being. Nevertheless, the two of them began spending more and more time outside of the office together, culminating in a rafting trip and their first kiss. From then on, they were inseparable—spending quite literally all day together, a trend that continues to this day.
